A full-time, permanent position as Associate Professor in modern/contemporary English-language literature is available with the English section of the Department of Language and Literature (ISL), at The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), with an anticipated start date of 1 August 2022.

The English section currently has 21 permanent employees within three broad areas of specialization—linguistics, literature, and cultural studies—of which six are permanent staff in literature studies.  The literature group of the section is actively engaged in individual and collaborative research projects, and is involved in local and wider networks which cross disciplinary and linguistic boundaries.  It offers Bachelor, Master’s, and PhD education in campus-based programs, and offers continuing education credits in an active distance program.

Position responsibilities

It is expected that the employee will

  • pursue research within the discipline and publish regularly in respected international outlets.
  • teach and supervise in relevant courses at all levels, both within the regular and teacher training programs and EVU (distance and continuing education) offering. While most of the teaching may be research based, the employee must be prepared to teach and supervise outside of his/her research area.
  • participate in exam work as well as administrative assignments.
  • contribute actively to student recruitment and program quality development.
  • lead and initiate research, pursue research supervision, and work actively to establish externally financed research projects.

The language of teaching and supervision for this position is English.  Administration in the department is predominantly conducted in Norwegian.

Qualification requirements

  • a PhD in a relevant area of modern/contemporary English-language literature;
  • an active research profile and well-developed plans for future projects and possible collaborations;
  • a track record of publications (in print or under contract) in international, refereed venues;
  • experience in designing and delivering research-based and survey courses in Anglophone literature;
  • excellent competence in oral and written English.

All applications should explicitly address the above criteria in their cover letter.  Candidates with a research and teaching record within areas of particular relevance to the research of the department and the teaching portfolio of the section will be preferred.  The candidate's own personal suitability, ability to work well with others and to contribute to an inclusive work environment, and motivation for the position will also be considered.

The application will be submitted electronically via https://www.jobbnorge.no/en/available-jobs/job/212147  . NB!  Applications which are not submitted via Jobbnorge or which are submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
