Summary of Job Duties:The Access Consultant (Programming) will consult and collaborate with faculty, students, other campus stakeholders, and outside entities regarding Universal Design and reframing disability. Facilitate access via accommodations, including those related to communication, the physical environment, print materials, and technology. Represent UALR locally and nationally by providing technical assistance and networking with other institutions and agencies. Perform other related duties as required. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Master’s degree in disability studies, social work, counseling, higher education, rehabilitation, special education, or related field.


Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Two years experience in the disability field, preferably in higher education;
  • Understanding of the intersection of information technology and disability, and experience in identifying and removing barriers;
  • Proficient in sign language.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate proactive approaches to comprehensive accessibility for all campus events;
  • Establish collaborative relationships by serving on campus committees as appropriate;
  • Participate in strategic plan activities;
  • Contribute to the writing of grant proposals to receive funding for initiatives that support the creation of more usable, inclusive, and sustainable learning environments;
  • Serve as liaison to the campus on issues of event programming;
  • Assist with the acquisition of textbooks in alternate formats;
  • Provide training and technical assistance to faculty, staff, administrators, and students;
  • Meet and collaborate with students to determine appropriate accommodations;
  • Maintain student records by documenting communications with and regarding students, recording recommended course of action or accommodations, and collecting documentation provided by the student;
  • Contribute to content for student e-newsletter and faculty/staff e-newsletter;
  • Conduct workshops and conference presentations;
  • Contribute to content revisions for departmental publications;
  • Provide technical assistance to students using Assistive Technology;
  • Respond to requests from interpreters, readers, and tutors for books needed from the bookstore; obtain publisher desk copies and return books to the bookstore;
  • Supervise Practicum and Intern graduate assistants.


Knowledge, Skills, and abilities

  • Knowledge of universal design and social model of disability;
  • Knowledge of the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act;
  • Organizational skills;
  • Writing skills;
  • Communication skills, including public speaking;
  • Computer skills, including database, spreadsheet, and word processing.
