Appointment: temporary, part-time, (0.5) FTE. Anticipated to last 1 year.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

The Outreach and Education Specialist's duties will include: recruiting, training and supervising volunteer Docents. These duties will include supervising and assisting with tours, teaching, and hosting guests, curating social media content, publicizing and facilitating the use of the Nature in the Classroom curricula to teachers and schools and museum events like open houses. In addition, the Specialist will assist with the development of museum exhibits and additional curricula, and will assist with specimen preparation and cataloging. They will keep track of purchases and mileage to and from sites, submit receipts and paperwork on time, organize, purchase and maintain kit supplies and assess and repair damage to kits. The position requires solid natural history knowledge and passion to learn more, research and writing skills. Natural history museum work experience is a plus The Specialist will work closely with museum staff and our Americorps member. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Supervisory Responsibilities - Docents and AmeriCorps member

Budget Responsibilities - Tracking expenses related to education and outreach

Qualifications:
  • College degree, preferably in the sciences
  • Natural History expertise
  • Experience teaching or working closely with K-12 students and teachers or in informal education
  • Excellent writing and research abilities
  • Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community
