Academic Operations Coordinator

About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:
Founded in 2014, the College of Engineering's Michael J. and Ann Sherman Center for Engineering Entrepreneurship Education strives to be an inclusive entrepreneurship community providing personalized experiential-learning to NU innovators. This donor-funded and college-supported center provides formal course instruction, an undergraduate minor, early-stage venture-founder support, a unique venture co-op and a variety of student and/or community-led events and initiatives for students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of the Sherman Center, the Academic Operations Coordinator is responsible for leading efforts in the critical student-facing areas of:
  • Logistical operations of Sherman courses and instructors;
  • Space access, coordination and safety training;
  • Developmental equipment workshops and trainings;
  • Student-group and program support;
  • Curating relationships with makerspace and lab managers

    As a student development-focused team member of this vibrant organization, the Academic Operations Coordinator oversees the safe and effective academic operations of all center programs and spaces. This includes interfacing with faculty and students daily, and possessing the necessary logistical and institutional knowledge to support the execution of our academic minor, courses and certificates. Additionally, this team member possesses the necessary technical knowledge to provide training, guidance and oversight of fabrication equipment use. This position will maintain the necessary relationships with college space planning and EH&S personnel to ensure Sherman spaces provide the highest level of safety to its students. This position provides technical and programmatic support and coaching to Sherman student-groups, and is also an active participant and leader for our community-wide DE&I efforts. Finally, this position will develop their knowledge of university curriculum, academic best-practices, and build and curate relationships with key stakeholders within curriculum and course-related college and university committees.

    To assist in these efforts, the Academic Operations Coordinator will oversee a co-op student, several work-study positions and student volunteers to support the day-to-day needs of the Sherman Center.

    Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field. Experience creating educational material such as training documents and newsletters. Experience working with engineering fabrication equipment (3D printers, desktop CNC mills, hand tools, power tools, etc.). Fluency with digital fabrication software such as Solidworks, Fusion 360, etc. Experience working with faculty and staff in an academic setting. 2-4 years managing and training in a maker space type of environment. Genuine excitement in working with, supervising, and mentoring a diverse population of students. Excellent communication and organizational skills
