About the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health
The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health trains students in the core disciplines applicable to practice and to do research in the field, including toxicology, exposure science, epidemiology, risk assessment, and policy. Students explore the multiple ways that chemical, radiological, and biological factors in the community and workplace impact health. The curriculum emphasizes preventive actions focused on creating healthier environments for communities and workers.
Job Summary
The adjunct faculty member will serve as the instructor for the graduate-level course Environmental and Occupational Toxicology (EOH 610, cross-listed for doctoral students as EOH 810). This is a 3-credit, in-person course that will be offered during the Winter quarter of the 2021-2022 academic year, which extends from January 3 through March 23, 2022. The quarter includes 10 weeks of instruction.
The Environmental and Occupational Toxicology course focuses on fundamentals of the science of toxicology as well as its practical applications within the field of environmental and occupational health. Topic areas include: dose-response; absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion; toxicologic mechanisms; mutagenesis and carcinogenesis; developmental toxicology; inhalation toxicology; and neurotoxicology. Examples will be drawn from major classes of toxicants relevant to environmental and occupational health. The course may comprise in-person and pre-recorded lectures, student presentations, and case study discussions that involve critical reading of primary scientific and non-scientific literature.
The course is a required element of the Master of Public Health degree in Environmental and Occupational Health, the Master of Science degree in Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, and the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Environmental and Occupational Health. The course may be taken as an elective by any graduate student at the University.

- Teach required number of credit hours per quarter based on contract.
- Plan and provide instructional experiences that reflect an understanding of the philosophy, objectives, and curriculum of the program.
- Provide instruction consistent with an approved course description
- Evaluate student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes.
- Communicate with the degree program director(s) regarding any course or student issues.
- Perform other similar duties as assigned.
- Master or doctorate degree in public health, environmental health, occupational health, toxicology, pharmacology, medicine or a related field.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Professional experience in a field related to toxicology preferred.
