Upper School Long Term Chinese Language Substitute Teacher Department: Upper School Location: Washington, DC
Position Start Date: January 2022
Status: Temporary Part-Time
Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker day school with campuses in Bethesda, MD and Washington, DC, seeks a long-term Chinese Language substitute teacher for students in grades 9-12. The position is part-time (.80) in the 3rd quarter (teaching four language classes from January to late March in 2022).
Required qualifications include experience teaching Chinese; familiarity with Chinese language pedagogy; experience in China; strong background in Chinese culture and literature and native or near-native proficiency in spoken and written Chinese; a bachelors degree; proficiency with technology; a commitment to working cooperatively with other Chinese teachers to maintain a strong language program; strong interpersonal skills and comfort in dealing with multiple and diverse constituencies.
The most desirable candidates will also be able to demonstrate proficiency using digital and online platforms and proven effectiveness as a classroom teacher in a brick-and-mortar setting. This position requires teaching in person.
