Primary Duties
Under general supervision, the incumbent will perform a broad range of photographic assignments and multimedia projects for the campus. Lead work direction will be provided by Creative Media & Technology. The work time will be split between Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. This position will work effectively with internal and external customers of Chico State, to provide production activities for these areas. Responsibilities include still digital SLR (single lens reflex) photography projects, including technical support for preproduction, production, and post-production, location and studio photography, processing of photos, including image manipulation, using computer systems and digital technology. Incumbent will also review, edit, keyword, and archive images, maintain photographic studio, equipment, and digital archives. Will provide training of student photographic assistants within department.

KNOWLEDGE :
Thorough knowledge of video production techniques.
Working knowledge of:
  • Techniques, materials and equipment used in the production of instructional media and related communication assignments.
  • Full range of production techniques including sound recording, graphics, television, photography, video taping, lighting, editing methods and equipment.
  • Safety requirements, standard to the industry, including how to handle hazardous chemicals and materials.
  • Tools for authoring interactive multimedia products delivered via a variety of synchronous and asynchronous techniques.
  • Artificial and reflective photographic lighting and the use of studio lighting kits and on-camera flash equipment.
  • Darkroom and development practices.
  • Computer techniques used for digital and analog production-related editing and duplication equipment.
  • Social Media principles and practices through visual medium.




  • Basic knowledge of and skill in graphics, still or motion photography, or television production.


SKILLS :
  • Basic computer skills to operate digital and analog production-related editing and duplication equipment.
  • Basic photography skills such as processing and manipulation including film speed, light, and color requirements.
  • Solid writing and editing skills, including a strong foundation in English grammar.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain working relationships with staff and students.


ABILITIES :
Must have the ability to:
  • Set up and operate a wide variety of production equipment, including set-up for multi-camera video productions and distance learning classrooms.
  • Learn techniques in the development of television, film, radio or multimedia productions.
  • Use judgment and discretion and solve problems guided by standard practices.
  • Perform moderately complex technical work to support and assist in various phases of production, such as developing creating, staging and / or producing professional quality visuals and evaluating production effectiveness in meeting objectives for moderately complex technical.
  • Understand operating procedures and underlying technology in order to use, maintain and troubleshoot studio, camera and related equipment and systems.
  • Meet deadlines and complete assignments.
  • Adapt to the varied needs of both campus and off-campus clients.
  • Perform photographic processing including an understanding of photographic chemicals.
  • Work with and train students involved in production projects.
  • Adjust to changing technology.
Required Education and/or Experience
This knowledge and skill normally is obtained through a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least six months of experience in still and motion picture photography, including a thorough knowledge of video production techniques. Additional Requirements for this Position
Some weekends, early mornings and evenings may be required. Recruitment Preferences
Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
• At least one year of on-the-job experience in an academic environment, or a related field or through technical experience and/or relevant coursework.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Digital Asset Management ( DAM ) system such as Extensis Portfolio.
• Advanced photography knowledge with aerial photography, cinemagraphs and short video.
• Flexibility to adjust to change (scheduling: nights and weekends/work environments: indoor/outdoor) Special Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to move materials weighing up to 50 lbs. varied distances for location shots. Work alternates between indoors and outdoors, including exposure to extreme temperatures and inclement weather, in unique locations, such as the University Farm, Sports Stadium, etc. Requires peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus and ability to identify color. Must be able to travel across campus, throughout the community, and possibly outside the region.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Work is performed in a typical photo studio/office for production. Outside locations may include even and uneven surfaces, may be exposed to weather changes such as temperatures, humidity or precipitation. Evening or weekend hours will be required to complete assignments. Benefits
