Position Details
The Office of Advancement builds lifelong relationships with alumni, parents, and friends, and engages them in support of Wesleyan’s educational mission and financial goals. Wesleyan University is currently in the quiet/leadership phase of a comprehensive fundraising campaign.

The Advancement team fosters pride in the Wesleyan community and develops support for university initiatives through outreach activities, including development/fundraising, alumni & parent relations, and both on- and off-campus events.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Special Events, the Assistant Director will coordinate event platform operations, programs and events intended to engage alumni and parents in the life of the University, as well as measure the success of those efforts.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Working in close conjunction with the Wesleyan Fund to coordinate individual reunion class initiatives including, maintaining class web pages, coordinating activities, including virtual and in-person planning and engagement programs and compile Reunion & Commencement Weekend WESeminar ideas for implementation.
  • Participating in Reunion class calls with volunteers and Wesleyan Fund Staff.
  • Training Alumni and Parent Relation interns to support the execution of select Reunion class programs.
  • Work with assigned administrative assistant to oversee event logistics, relationship with venues/vendors/caterers or other service providers, and event budgets.
  • Coordinating all aspects of Linvio event registration system and related training and protocols.
  • Maintaining a portfolio of assignments for various on-campus events including Homecoming/Family Weekend and Reunion & Commencement Weekend.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, experience in marketing, social media, communications, public relations or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education training and experience. Experience in these areas during college will be considered.

Demonstrated ability to be flexible and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while working with varied personalities and work styles.

Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills and organizational skills, with great attention to detail.

Self-motivated and able to balance competing deadlines, and manage multiple and often shifting priorities.

Ability to manage complex relationships, and proven collaboration and teamwork skills.

Intermediate expertise with MS Word and Excel, Outlook and database programs.

Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.

This position requires some evening and weekend work, as well as overnight travel.
