The Role

The Department of Mathematical Sciences invites applications for a 3-year postdoctoral position beginning in October 2022. The successful candidate will work with Dr Ben Hoare and other members of the Mathematical and Theoretical Particle Physics Group, contributing to the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship project "Quantum Symmetries in String Theory." Candidates with a strong track record in integrability, string theory and related areas are encouraged to apply.

The position is a full time Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on a UKRI funded project within the Mathematical and Theoretical Particle Physics Group in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Interaction and exchanges of ideas will primarily take place with members of the Group, and occasionally with other members of the Departments of Mathematical Sciences and Physics.

Responsibilities :

* To play an active role in the research activity of the Mathematical and Theoretical Particle Physics Group.

* To understand and convey material of a specialist nature through discussions and presentations within the Group.

* To conduct individual and collaborative research projects under the direction of the Principal Investigator.

* To publish research outputs in internationally leading peer-reviewed scientific journals and open-access electronic archives.

* To present research outputs at seminars and international workshops and conferences, as well to broader audiences.

* To work with the Principal Investigator and other members of the Group to identify new areas for research, as appropriate.

* To help address problems that may affect research outputs by discussing with the Principal Investigator and offering creative or innovative solutions.

* To make new contacts that develop knowledge and understanding and to form relationships for potential future research collaboration.

* To plan and manage own research activity, research resources in collaboration with others and contribute to the planning of research projects.

* To be involved in the supervision of PhD students, as appropriate.

* To contribute to fostering a respectful working environment, which is inclusive and welcoming and where everyone is treated fairly with dignity and respect.

* To engage in wider citizenship supporting the Department, as appropriate.

* To continue own professional development by attending relevant training and development courses, as appropriate.

This post is fixed term for 3 years and includes a generous travel allowance. Funding for the position is available until 30th September 2025. As such, successful applicants will, ideally, be in post by 1st October 2022.
