SPECIAL PROJECTS AND COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 /year

At the UC San Diego Office of the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (VC-EDI), we believe that true excellence is achieved through productive relationships among people of diverse perspectives. Creativity and innovation prosper when the collective talents of our students, faculty, and staff are joined together in an environment that is open and inclusive. We define greatness by our ability to work together in a climate of shared respect, where diverse perspectives are valued and opportunities for growth and self-reflection exist for all. VC-EDI works in partnership with other Vice Chancellor areas to ensure that students, faculty, and staff find community and self-empowerment, regardless of heritage, orientation, or situation.

Central to the purpose of the Office of the VC-EDI is to ensure that our community is one of equal opportunity, where mutual respect and cross-cultural collaboration is fostered and open dialogue is encouraged. It is our mission to provide leadership, build capacity, and forge partnerships to facilitate shared responsibility for creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus in which students, faculty, and staff can thrive.

The VC-EDI, through partnership and collaboration, directs the campus efforts relative to diversity initiatives, which includes the work of the Campus Community Centers, as well as the efforts of the Center for Faculty Diversity and Inclusion.

Works with Chief of Staff to develop and execute organizational communication and market branding strategy. As needed, incumbent designs and implements information campaigns and advises the VC for EDI and other EDI personnel on comprehensive communication strategy, including responding to hate/bias incidents, crisis, and rapid response; advance planning for such incidents; and creating and disseminating written communications; and/or working with UC San Diego Communications staff to create written communications related to hate/bias. Incumbent is versed in relevant policies and procedures to help resolve a wide range of issues.

Project Management: Individual is a project management professional with a full understanding of project management frameworks and methods. Project scale ranges from small internal projects to campus-wide projects or initiatives.
