Job Description

The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine, seeks an outstanding candidate for a full-time Research Associate Professor or Full Research Professor who will hold the Sosland Endowed Chair in Trauma Services.

The Sosland Endowed Chair in Trauma Services was established in 2002 between Truman Medical Center (TMC) and the University of Missouri. The UMKC School of Medicine and Truman Medical Center have embarked on a national search to identify the third Sosland chairholder who will advance the research and training missions in trauma services. The successful candidate for the Sosland Chair in Trauma Services will assume a leadership role in trauma services at Truman Medical Center and will meet the following qualifications:
  • Current board certification in Critical Care/Trauma
  • Record of research and scholarly publications and funding in the study of trauma, epidemiology, risk reduction, treatment or prevention.
  • Evidence of successful teaching at the post graduate medical school level
  • Evidence of successful research collaborations with physicians and nonphysicians
The chairholder will promote the activities of the trauma laboratory and be involved in trauma related research and training at the local (University and Hospital), regional, and national level. The candidate will be a member of UMKC Department of Surgery and will be expected to increase the research productivity of the department, train residents in research, and mentor junior faculty and other trainees.

Candidates must, have excellent verbal, written and organizational skills, and work effectively as a team member with other faculty.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Advanced degree (Ph.D., D.O., M.D.) in an appropriate health-related science is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience: Preferred qualifications include candidates who have a track record of funded research in a trauma or shock related field.

Full Time/Part Time

This is a 12-month full time, benefit eligible Ranked Non-Tenure Track faculty position to begin Nov. 15, 2021.

Negotiable and commensurate with experience and qualifications
