  • Description

Suffolk University is pleased to announce the career opportunity for Associate Director of Learning Design & Technology! Experienced academic technologist and learning design professional who will establish and manage the processes and technology related to development of an online course framework and student learning experience for short, noncredit programing. The position will oversee (in partnership with external vendors) the development of a standardized course design process. This person will work with faculty to develop cutting-edge, engaging, market-responsive, course content to be delivered in asynchronous, synchronous and blended learning formats utilizing the most up-to-date pedagogical models. This person will regularly maintain and update existing course content to ensure learning outcomes are aligned with assessments and they will monitor and analyze course performance data to inform necessary updates and improvements. This position will serve as the liaison internally with CTE and IT to support technologies associated with CCPE. This position will also create and maintain appropriate and relevant documentation for all learning design, faculty management and support processes within CCPE.

This position will support the Strategic Plan’s goal to build up professional and career focused offerings intended to make Suffolk University a leader in producing career adaptable alumnus. Because of the nature of CCPE (skills-based, industry-responsive, short courses) and the audience it serves (working professionals), the need to have a dedicated person on staff able to respond quickly to constantly changing market and industry needs through application of sophisticated online technology and course design is imperative to our success. Currently, the Center for Teaching & Scholarly Excellence has limited resources and the scope of their services encompasses supporting the entire University. This means the ability to CTSE to respond quickly to the needs of CCPE will be unlikely, resulting in delays to market and decrease our competitiveness in the noncredit, short course marketplace. In addition, as CCPE takes over the management of LIT certificate the Law School, we will need an individual who can transition, update and manage the existing course content of that program since that program will no longer have a dedicated designer once their partnership with iLaw ends on 9/15.

The Associate Director of Learning Design & Technology will leverage their professional experience and instructional design skills to manage multiple educational technology projects to support the growth of online program offerings for the new Center for Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE). In collaboration with the Director of CCPE and Center staff, this position will identify, source and create, maintain and review a portfolio of alternative credential (noncredit & short course) online programming focused on skills attainment for adult and professional students that are based on industry demand and cutting edge pedagogy. The Associate Director will oversee the learning design and technology strategy for CCPE including:

    • Provide learning design and instructional technology support to faculty to ensure that noncredit programming meets key career and learning objectives
    • Explore opportunities to scaffold and/or stack courses to optimize learner pathways and connect to workforce-relevant opportunities. Identify new courses offerings based on analysis of existing inventory
    • Provide appropriate alignment, assessment, activities and content recommendations that are based in learning science and contribute to student satisfaction and learning outcomes
    • Oversee production, implementation, quality review, and evaluation of new and current programming
    • Oversee the selection, deployment and support of the learning technologies portfolio; assesses the effectiveness of technology offerings to develop new strategies as needed
    • Create resources or templates to assist academic leads to convert courses to short and noncredit programs. Develop instructional materials
    • Design learning experience and instructor models to support personalization and scalability
    • Monitor trends in the online alternative non/credit course marketplace and use market data to drive key recommendations
    • Enthusiasm and empathy for those who struggle to learn technological skills
    • Solid written, verbal, and communication skills
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
