Job Summary

The Associate Director of Marketing and Communications is the primary project manager for the College of Arts and Sciences’ (CoAS) marketing and communications team. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Associate Director plays a vital strategic role in helping to set the direction of College messaging, as well as an important tactical role in leading its implementation. Content development and execution is a key component of the position. The Associate Director is organized and reliable, possess outstanding writing and editing skills, and are equally as comfortable as a self-starter and a team player.

Essential Functions
  • Work with Director to establish marketing and communications priorities, strategies, and tactics
  • Lead development of a project-management process and workflow for CoAS marketing and communications projects
  • Oversee project workflow from initial kickoff through strategic analysis
  • Serve as lead on College event logistics (event concept, catering, space reservations, A/V requests, external vendors, etc.), and manage related marketing/communications
  • Strategize, write and edit compelling brand-aligned stories for College website, newsletter, magazine, press releases, brochures, presentations, etc.
  • Contribute to College’s social media feeds
  • Serve as associate editor of the College’s magazine, which includes generating story ideas, writing articles, curating images, and editing/reviewing content and design
  • Coordinate hiring and scheduling of student staff; supervise projects and deadlines
  • Hire all outside vendors, and process paperwork and invoice
  • Order all promotional materials for College; serve as liaison between departments and vendor to place orders/ensure proper branding
  • Coordinate photo and video shoot
  • Other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communication, Journalism, English or related area
  • 5-7 years of experience in marketing, media relations or related field; 1-2 years of project management experience
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Proven leadership and delegation skills, and proficiency in time and project management
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to develop positive working relationships with individuals of diverse backgrounds
  • Self-motivated, creative, highly organized, and able to work under pressure
  • Experience with social media strategy and management
  • Evening and weekend work may be required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience managing external vendors
