JOB DESCRIPTION

The University of Indianapolis is seeking applications for the position of Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost. The Provost provides supportive leadership and active management of the University’s academic programs and associated staff while ensuring consistent and high quality standards that meet the needs of both external regulators and our diverse student body. The Provost will actively advocate for academic programs and faculty, to audiences within and outside of the University, while supporting faculty's teaching, scholarship, and service. The Provost will have experience as a faculty member with senior rank (associate or full) and possess a record of progressively responsible academic administrative experience in higher education at an accredited institution.

As the groundwork has been laid for the University’s next series of strategic priorities, including the recent development of an Academic Master Plan, the Provost will draw on diverse skills and experiences while playing an important role in the effective implementation of key strategic initiatives. The Provost must provide decisive direction toward objectives while also demonstrating familiarity with and commitment to shared governance. The Provost will be a tested leader who has demonstrated an ability to gain support from diverse constituents when making decisions, and be able to effectively manage and improve processes that align with the University’s mission and objectives. The Provost will be a leader who is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and who works collaboratively and collegially with stakeholders across campus.

The successful candidate will have the highest commitment to academic and scholarly standards and be an accomplished leader in higher education holding or having held the rank of a senior faculty member (associate or full) at an accredited institution of higher education. Earned doctorate or relevant terminal degree is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborates with the President to provide leadership for the academic mission of the University by aspiring to the very best of what it can achieve;
  • Stewards the academic vision of the University and manages it in ways consistent with the University's strategic planning vision;
  • Provides effective leadership over a broad range of services and departments in academic affairs including the Registrar's Office, the Center for Advising and Student Achievement, the Krannert Memorial Library, the Faculty Academy and Academic Computing, and the Center for Global Engagement;
  • Provides vision, encouragement, and direction for the Deans and Academic Affairs leadership team;
  • Articulates academic accomplishments and visions to internal and external audiences, including the Board of Trustees, alumni, and external partners;
  • Cultivates a commitment to curricular review, assessment, and continuous program development;
  • Oversees external accreditation of academic programs and regular program review;
  • Cultivates excellence, accountability, and efficiency in all academic programs, by working with the Deans, through the institutions of shared governance;
  • Works closely with the Faculty Senate and Deans to support faculty affairs;
  • Participates in development and monitoring of budgets that enable the University to fulfill its mission as efficiently and effectively as possible;
  • Collaborates in planning for student enrollment and retention necessary to enable the University to meet its objectives;
  • Provides other assistance to the President as requested;
  • Advocates for the Deans while communicating the realities of fiscal governance skillfully;
  • Manages and engages the Board of Trustees on the intellectual lie of the University within the scope of academic policy;
  • Bridges administration and faculty perspectives;
  • Leads the University's academic mission in a period of change and a period of growth;
  • Understands the role of and effectively manages the outcomes from administrative departments housed within academic affairs;
  • Uses data-informed processes in making student-focused decisions;
  • Takes the time to understand the University's unique culture and accomplishments;
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of private institutions of higher education and the unique challenges they face;
  • Supports both undergraduate and graduate teaching and scholarship;
  • Communicates effectively to promote institution-wide collaboration, cooperation, and scholarly activity.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Accomplished leadership in higher education, holding or having held the rank of a senior faculty member (associate or full) at an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Earned doctorate or relevant terminal degree is required.
