Chief of Police

Chatham University has an immediate opening for Chief of Police in the University's Public Safety department.

The Chief of Police ensures the effective administration of University security, accident prevention, parking and traffic control, transportation, fire prevention, all criminal and non-criminal campus police matters, oversees the University shuttle program, and maintains the full operation of the University motor pool.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organizes, directs, and evaluates all departmental activities, including the development of University and departmental policies, budgets, planning, research, maintains adequate records of criminal incidents, as well as all safety and fire prevention programs.
  • Conducts follow-up investigation of all incidents and recommends corrective action.
  • Develops in-service training programs for University and security personnel.
  • Creates necessary scheduling of all campus police officers and shuttle drivers to maximize service and protection of the entire campus community.
  • Administers Local 249 collective bargaining agreement.


Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Qualification under Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry Act 44.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to crime, safety, and fire.
  • Certification in emergency first aid, CPR, and first responder.
  • Pennsylvania driver's license.
  • Five years of supervisory experience in public safety and/or security environment.
