Job Description
This position is responsible for the operation of multiple facilities managed by Campus Services and Activities and the coordination of day-to-day maintenance and projects in those buildings with NAU Facility Services. This position also works closely with the Campus Events Operations and Support area and assists with activities, meetings, and events as needed. Primary areas of operational responsibility include: University Union, Field House multipurpose facility, duBois South Union, North Union/Prochnow Auditorium, High Country Conference Center, Wall Aquatic Center, Health and Learning Center, and multiple Campus Dining locations.
(Percentages of Time) Job Functions and Duties:
(40%) Operations Managment:
- Provide leadership and general direction for the operational unit including supervision of full time, part time, and student employees
- Provide input for employment decisions, staff scheduling, and facility hours
- Manage the team responsible for the aquatic center facility
- Manage the team responsible for meeting and event facility operations as well as assisting with special events
- Coordinate building hours, prioritizes event schedules, and communicate availability with user groups and the event sales team
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to facility operations and assist in departmental design and execution of strategic goals and initiatives
- Support training, hazard communication, and incident prevention programs in multiple facility types based on industry and regulatory requirements
- Ensure that full-time and student staff receive required and suggested training to remain compliant with university and industry regulations and are able to operate equipment safely
- Foster and maintain partnerships with outside departments and agencies to maintain exceptional quality in facility operations while communicating opportunities to maximize facility use and enhance the experience for NAU students
(30%) Facility Services Liaison
- Manage scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repair, custodial, and trades' tasks for the department
- Initiate and track renovation, remodel, and new construction projects through the office of Planning Design and Construction using both internal trades and outside contractors.
- Participate in the ongoing planning efforts for an on-campus ice rink including advance equipment procurement, staffing plan design, development of necessary policies, procedures, and documentation, and producing documents necessary for general rink operations.
(15%) Vendor/Contract Coordination
- Coordinate improvement and repair projects in dining facilities under contract with the Campus Dining program to minimize impacts on service
- Coordinate and communicate frequently with the High Country Conference Center contracted management staff to schedule maintenance and repair activities while minimizing impacts on events
- Communicate and facilitate service contracts with outside vendors for specialty maintenance and repair tasks, event logistical support, and other support roles as needed
(10%) Finanical Responsibility
- Manage multiple operations budgets as well as special project budgets for the operational unit.
- Provide budget forecasting and general life cycle analysis for new equipment purchases
(5%) Other Duties as assigned
- This position may require working mornings, evenings and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field AND
- 2-4 years of management or supervisory experience AND
- Minimum of 3 years work experience in facility operations OR
- Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in a related field
- Current status as Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO)
- Current status as Certified Rink Administrator (CRA) and/or Certified Ice Rink Manager (CIRM)
- Management experience in facility operations
- Work or management experience in an aquatic facility
- Work or management experience in an ice rink facility
