A successful candidate will play an active role in FMU's athletics program and collaborate with staff and administration to ensure student-athletes are provided with opportunities and services to help them succeed academically. All coaching positions will provide support to athletics activities, have daily contact with the public, and requires the ability to interact (internally and externally) in a professional, positive, and tactful manner at all times.

Essential Functions:
  • Assisting with the daily operations of the Track and Field team. Includes developing team camps/clinics.
  • Assist with coaching fundamentals and skills during practice and games.
  • Models professional behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Responsible for assisting in the direction of all phases of a nationally competitive program in accordance with Florida Memorial University, the Sun Conference, and NAIAI regulations. Specifically, duties include: recruiting, handling video exchange, individual instruction/player improvement, coordinating community involvement.
  • Work standards in accordance with FMU’s strategic framework and culture in student success, operational excellence, financial solvency, academic quality, and relationship management.
  • Assist with submitting administrative and compliance documents.
  • Assist with student data; including admissions, financial aid, registration, and academic performance data.
  • Adhere to Florida Memorial University, but not limited to The Department of Athletics, The Sun Conference, and NAIA, work hours, policies, procedures, and rules governing professional staff behavior.
  • Participate in institutional professional development and training. Display behavior consistent with professional ethics and the FMU Staff handbook.
  • Supervision responsibilities of support staff (i.e. work-study, student assistants).
  • The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Work involves planning and directing daily requests. Ability to plan and promote special events.
  • Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Lifting required (i.e., set-up of scorers’ table, etc.), some manual labor is expected. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Ability to handle information of sensitive and confidential nature in the utmost professional manner.
  • Effective analytical and decision-making skills. Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and time management skills. Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse constituents.
  • Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability.
    Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree plus two (2) plus years of coaching experience. Successful experience as a graduate assistant or intern in an athletic program is acceptable with one (1) year of the required experience. Travel is necessary.
  • CPR and AED Certified.
  • Must be able to work well with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule that may include working nights and weekends
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills. Proofreading skills required. Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.
  • Extensive hours and weekends will be required at times.
  • Pre-Employment screening is required: criminal background check and drug testing.
