The Coordinator, Multicultural Development will be an equity-minded and race conscious individual who will develop, implement, and sustain comprehensive multicultural development experiences that integrate knowledge gained in the classroom with co-curricular practical experiences focusing on diversity, self-discovery and empowerment, mutual respect, globally engaged stewardship, emotional intelligence, cross cultural communication, and resiliency.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Supervision of the Graduate Assistant of Multicultural Development.
  • Develops and implements multicultural development experiences to enhance and provide opportunities for students to engage in campus programming.
  • Prepares and implements evaluations, manages data, assessments, and strategic planning initiatives to assess and report growth and effectiveness of the student engagement programs to supervisor and appropriate stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with appropriate on-campus partners to provide effective multicultural development experiences to enhance the understanding of diversity and multicultural competence among all students.
  • Works collaboratively with administrators in the development, implementation and documentation developing and enforcing program policies and procedures.
  • Supervises the Multicultural Ambassadors Program - a student advocacy group that educates the campus community on diversity and inclusion topics and promotes Multicultural Development experiences.
  • Coordinates efforts and provides cultural heritage and faith-based celebrations and educational experiences and retreats – Beyond the Lines: Diversity and Social Justice Retreat, Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, Women’s History month, LGBT awareness, and other religious awareness experiences.
  • Assists with civic engagement experiences such as Alternative Break throughout the year and during breaks for selection of service sites, assessment, selection of site leaders, and participants.
  • Participates in the implementation and facilitation of the Social Justice Institute.
  • Advise and collaborate with campus partners to provide students with resources, support, referral, and advocacy.
  • Fosters a supportive and student-centered environment to empower and equip students with skills and strategies to engage in self-advocacy.
  • Identifies assessment needs, including but not limited to selection of assessable criteria, selection or development of appropriate instruments, establishing desired performance thresholds, developing data collection strategies, analyzing data collected, measuring impacts and writing resulting reports in order to support ongoing co-curricular improvements.
  • Ensures that the Multicultural and Leadership Development Educational priorities, learning goals and outcomes are incorporated into all experiences
  • Serves on department as well as cross-campus committees for special event planning and programming.
  • Monitors and complies with all fiscal expenditures and guidelines in accordance with university policies and procedures.
Other Duties:
  • Assists with departmental functions and participates in outreach for the Campus Life and Multicultural activities.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two years of full-time experience in student life, multicultural programming and leadership development, or student involvement. A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, or closely related field may substitute for the work experience.

Two years of professional full-time experience in student life, multicultural programming and leadership development, or student involvement

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Experience operating a personal computer and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

Two or more professional full-time experience in a college setting, in student life, multicultural programming and leadership development, or student involvement.

Experience working with underrepresented/underserved students, multicultural development, and cultural programming for multiple levels of students from first time in college students to graduate students.

Experience with developing and implementing trainings, retreats and workshops; implementing multicultural competencies/theories.

Experience supervising graduate and student employees.

Experience mentoring, advising student groups and service focused on social justice issues

Experience with desktop publishing and social media marketing.

Bilingual/Spanish/Creole

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of FERPA.

Knowledge of student organization structures, leadership development design, and student development theories.

Knowledge of best practices to support diversity within institutions of higher education.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.

Skill in mediation and dispute resolution.

Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and community partners in a service-oriented manner.

Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently.

Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and communicate data in a clear and concise format.

Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work when numerous and diverse demands are involved.

Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.

Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.

Ability to operate a personal computer with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and knowledge of desktop publishing.

Ability to develop, implement, facilitate, and assess cultural and social-justice oriented programs, activities, and experiences that support a diverse and inclusive campus community.

Ability to work effectively with students and possess a commitment to social justice and equity.

Ability to navigate sensitive situations and understand community-building, team-building, leadership development, and collaboration.

Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes equity and inclusion.
