Job Summary

The Coordinator, Leadership Development develops, implements, and sustains comprehensive leadership programs and experiences for the Multicultural and Leadership Development Center. This position advises student leadership groups/programs, assesses the impact of current experiences, and supports MLD Center initiatives.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Develops, implements, and assesses leadership development programs and experiences such as one-day conferences (iLEAD Summit), weekend retreats (Leadership Academy), and workshops (FLIGHT), and seminars.
  • Advises various student leadership groups.
  • Supports the MLD Center team through center-initiated experiences such as Weeks of Welcome programming, holiday and end-of-year celebrations, and student leader recruitment and training.
  • Advises and collaborates with appropriate on-campus partners to provide effective leadership development programs and experiences across campus.
  • Monitors and complies with all fiscal expenditures and guidelines in accordance with university policies and procedures.
  • Serves on department as well as cross-campus committees such as the Campus Life committee.
  • Fosters a supportive and student-centered environment to empower and equip students with skills and strategies to engage in self-advocacy. ​
Other Duties:
  • Supervises the Leadership Development Graduate Assistant.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two years of full-time experience in student life, leadership development programming, or student involvement. A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, or closely related field may substitute for the work experience.

Two years of professional full-time experience in student affairs, leadership development, or student programming.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Experience operating a personal computer and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience advising student programs and/or leadership groups.

Experience with public speaking, developing and implementing leadership programs, retreats and workshops.

Experience supervising graduate and student assistants or student leaders.

Experience with desktop publishing and social media marketing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of FERPA.

Knowledge of student organization structures, leadership development design, and student development theories.

Knowledge of best practices to support diversity within institutions of higher education.

Knowledge of an experience implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.

Skill in mediation and dispute resolution.

Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, business partners and the public in a service oriented manner.

Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and communicate data in a clear and concise format.

Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work when numerous and diverse demands are involved.

Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance and motivation.

Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.

Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.

Ability to operate a personal computer with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and knowledge of desktop publishing.

Ability to develop, implement, facilitate, and assess cultural and social-justice oriented programs, activities, and events that support a diverse and inclusive campus community.

Ability to work effectively with students and possess a commitment to social justice and equity.

Ability to navigate sensitive situations and understand community-building, team-building, leadership development, and collaboration.

Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes equity and inclusion.
