D’Youville College, in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, is pleased to announce the search for a Founding Engineering Program Director (tenure-track, open rank position). This exciting new program is currently being developed and presents a unique opportunity for a professional committed to engineering education to envision and implement an innovative engineering program deeply rooted in the liberal arts environment.

The program will aim to address the need for engineering professionals in Buffalo, Western New York and beyond. The two majors currently under development are Industrial Engineering and Software Engineering with potential to add other areas of specialty. The strategic vision for the program includes achievement of ABET accreditation, developing additional engineering majors at all degree levels, developing industry partnerships and growing the program into a stand-alone School of Engineering at D’Youville.

The Professor and Founding Director will be a creative thinker and have experience with all aspects of program development, accreditation and administration, including but not limited to curriculum development, student recruitment and retention, faculty recruitment and development.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the implementation, administration and operation of the Engineering Program with particular focus on achieving ABET accreditation as soon as possible.
• Responsible for teaching, advising and mentoring students in the Engineering Program and/or other programs within the college or school as appropriate.
• Develop and coordinate partnerships in the engineering industry as well as recruit, support and mentor faculty.
• Pursue a robust scholarly agenda in the field, serve on department, school-wide and institutional-wide committees, ad hoc task forces, work groups and perform student recruitment activities as well as participate in curricular design, course and program review, assessment and evaluation
• Exhibit strong communication skills, proactive problem-solving skills, support students-centric focus of the College and work well in teams.
• Responsible for creating and maintaining a culture of inclusion that engages students and values each person’s contribution to the D’Youville educational mission.

The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, practice, teaching, service, and/or administrative experience, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

Qualifications:

The Professor and Founding Director should display strong leadership, organization, technology literacy, interpersonal ability, time management and self-motivation. In addition, successful candidates will demonstrate evidence of working successfully with diverse populations and meet the following:

• Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Software Engineering or related fields;
• Knowledge of and experience with ABET accreditation standards;
• Administrative and/or management experience in an academic setting;
• Preference given to candidates with New York State professional licensure (or license eligibility);
• Exceptional competence in his or her field.
