Summary of Job Duties:The Student Laboratory Assistant will serve as laboratory and teaching support for the science laboratory instructors which may require laboratory preparation and breakdown, proctoring, training students in use of technology, grading via rubrics, and meeting with students.

Qualifications:

Education & Work Experience: Minimum qualifications include at least junior-level standing and strong previous performance in laboratory course being proctored, or equivalent experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete safety training with Instructor and/or Coordinator and pass a safety exam.
  • Attend weekly SLA meetings with Instructor and/or Coordinator.
  • Carry out lab exercise prior to proctoring.
  • Assist in preparation of lab, as required.
  • Be prompt and prepared for lab sessions.
  • Proctor labs as assigned.
  • Be a role model for lab safety and require students to operate under safe conditions.
  • Assist in the breakdown of the lab, as required.
  • Grade lab reports using rubrics prepared by the Instructor and/or Coordinator.
  • Return graded assignments promptly.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Ensure proper student use of instrumentation and equipment.
  • Inform lab instructor or Coordinator of problems and potential problems involving labs.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject material.
  • Good working knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Ability to prepare materials for labs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.


Salary Information:

$15/hour
