About the Opportunity:
Reporting to the Senior Vice Provost and Chief Inclusion Officer, and working in collaboration with colleagues in the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion (OIDI), Northeastern External Affairs and other stakeholders across the global network, the Director of Communications and Events will have dual responsibility for developing and disseminating compelling communications products, and promoting and supporting events that foster faculty, student, staff, and community engagement aimed at advancing organizational diversity goals.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include:
- Generate and execute—from story development through draft and
posting-- compelling and engaging content.
- Draft communications for newsletters and organizational
announcements; prepare presentations for leaders.
- Manage comprehensive content calendars, posting and email
schedules.
- Author, post, and monitor social media content.
- Support employee engagement through web content creation,
including interviewing employees for published Q&As, drafting
online newsletters, and editing video interviews.
- Support event planning and promotion by drafting invites,
creating event assets, preparing event plans and talking points,
and assisting with event logistics.
- Write, edit, and proofread content for all communication
vehicles: publications including white papers and reports, emails,
website, etc.
- Disseminate departmental notices, white papers, reports and
other products to target audiences.
- Ensure the mandated use of Northeastern brand alignment in all
print, digital, and social collateral communications.
- Research and apply innovative practices related to student and
employee engagement and communication in virtual
environments.
The Director will collaborate with other campus offices, external partners, and students to develop and execute new and existing communications vehicles in support of institutional diversity and inclusion efforts. The Director may be required to work before or after normal business hours, including weekends. Some evening and weekend events will require attendance and oversight. Other projects assigned as directed by the Senior Vice Provost and Chief Inclusion Officer and other senior leaders of IDEA.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or journalism
plus more than 5 years' experience in communications, and at least
2 years preparing communications to promote diversity and
inclusion, cultural competency, and or social/justice
required.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven.
- A strong communicator able to collaborate with people of
diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong planning and organizational skills with high standards
of excellence.
- Knowledge of design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite,
Canva, etc.) - a plus, as is knowledge of video editing a
plus.
- Experience with website development and social media, including
WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram is required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, make sound
decisions, and execute.
- Project management skills including the ability to manage
multiple projects and programs simultaneously.
- Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to
resolve problems in a quick, efficient, creative and culturally
competent manner.
