About the Opportunity:
Northeastern University seeks an exceptionally accomplished leader with a distinguished professional record to serve as Executive Vice Provost (EVP). Reporting to Northeastern University's Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, David Madigan, the EVP acts as a strategist, advisor and executor for the Provost and provides the day-to-day leadership, as well as the strategic planning and oversight of all the functional areas of the office, including communications, budget and planning, human resources (non-faculty), external reporting, and major academic facilities projects. The EVP provides guidance and counsel to the provost, the provost's leadership team, and other academic leaders on academic budgets, policy, planning, and governance. The EVP works closely with the college deans, administrative associate deans in the nine schools and colleges, the university library, information technology and other academic units and supports the various administrative related processes, including annual goal setting for the provost's direct reports. In addition, the EVP serves as a liaison with other University offices, and represents the provost, as needed, at meetings, functions, and on committees. Recognizing the different functions of a university that are centrally administered and de-centralized, the EVP must be capable of influencing and informing both directly and through others. They will be called upon to work up, down and across functions, departments, colleges and campuses to execute on the goals for the Office of the Provost as well as those in support of the broader Northeastern community. This individual plays a critical role in facilitating communication amongst key stakeholders and leadership and cultivates a sense of shared goals among the Office of the Provost constituents to enhance unity throughout the division.

Already acknowledged as the leader in experiential education, Northeastern is dedicated to integrating experiential education into a global lifelong learning approach that will embrace research and industry. The Office of the Provost provides overall academic leadership to the University, guides the university in implementing the Academic Plan, with a special responsibility for integrating academic planning across the colleges and fostering cross-college interdisciplinary initiatives in support of the plan.

Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities of the EVP:

- Anticipate and serve as a strategic thought partner to the Provost and fellow colleagues within the Office of the Provost on objectives, priorities, issues and risks, and all administrative related matters.

- Execute the annual budget planning process and provide guidance to associate deans for admin and finance for budget planning and fiscal management for their respective units.

- Provide direct oversight of and leadership to the office of budget, administration and finance in the Provost's office.

- Lead the Office of University Decision Support responsible for external reporting related to accreditation, licensure and rankings.

- Ensure implementation of annual goal setting for the office of the provost and the colleges. Implement mid-year review process and ensure deans are on track to meet goals. Provide the provost with guidance on progress.

- Align dean and unit goal setting with the Academic Plan - Beyond 2025, and track progress against Key Performance Indicators for the Provost.

- Oversee projects on behalf of the office of the provost that require collaboration and integration across the university and within the colleges. Includes major academic facilities projects such as a new 400,000 square foot science building to be completed in 2023. Ensure the provost is kept abreast of progress and made aware of outcomes and deliverables.

- With support from University HR, lead staff executive searches for the Office of the Provost. Interview and select search firms, work with the Faculty Senate as appropriate to staff committees, represent the Provost on search committees and advance the timeline for search completions. In close consultation with the VP Human Resources and the Provost draft offer letters and facilitate approval of offers by the Board of Trustees Compensation Committee.

- On behalf of the Provost, convene meetings and planning sessions with leaders, key stakeholders and partners for review and discussion of divisional initiatives.

- Foster the establishment of a “team” ethic, leading efforts to implement a unified vision and shared goals for the Office of the Provost and his leadership team.

- Engage in and support fundraising efforts at Northeastern with particular emphasis on interdisciplinary programs and new ventures.

Qualifications:
Qualifications:

- Minimum of 15 years' in higher education with specific experience in overseeing administrative areas including budget planning, compensation, and human resources.

- Possess a record of professional experience that demonstrates progressive responsibilities and significant interaction with senior leadership teams.

- The successful candidate will be forward-thinking, can move expeditiously and proactively on numerous fronts, possess a world-class intellect, and have demonstrated collaborative, evaluative leadership in his or her prior roles.
