Associate Director, Partnership Development

About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:
Northeastern University's Roux Institute is designed as an engine of innovation, talent-building, and economic growth for Portland, Maine, and northern New England. Partnerships set our model of graduate education and research apart. With leading companies and nonprofit organizations at the table from day one, we are creating programs that are preparing the workforce to stay agile and thrive in a competitive landscape powered by artificial intelligence. We are nurturing an environment for high-impact research and innovation in computer and data science, digital engineering, the advanced life sciences and medicine, and other tech fields. And we are helping entrepreneurs launch businesses focused on and powered by technology. Together, we envision an “innovation corridor” that in the coming years will stretch from Boston to Portland and beyond.

At the core of the Roux Institute is a mission to build a learning, research, and entrepreneurship engine, hand in hand with industry, community, and like-minded partners, to drive economic mobility and opportunity across the state of Maine and surrounding region. To continue the advancement of this goal, the Roux Institute is seeking an Associate Director, Partnership Development reporting to the Director, Partnership Development, to work with the organization on the development of a comprehensive partnership strategy, with a strong focus on facilitating outreach operations and supporting inbound opportunities.

This is an exciting opportunity to define new partner types, formats, strategies, metrics of impact, and value propositions. Developed partnerships will exist across a range of categories including industry, community, and academic organizations, for- and nonprofits, and serve a continuum of partner needs including new talent acquisition, workforce development, sponsored research, and collaborative innovation. The Associate Director will identify and nurture new opportunities, perform landscape analysis and due diligence, communicate the value of partnerships, introduce prospective partners to resources across the Institute and University network, and structure novel arrangements that maximize strategic value for all parties.

Responsibilities:
The role requires strong institutional awareness, a bias toward action, and superb communication both externally and cross-functionally within the organization. This role will work closely with colleagues across the Institute to define success and chart goals for each partnership, with a focus on cultivating partnerships that grow and mature over time and achieve outsized impact. The successful candidate will be passionate about developing partnerships to achieve the mission of the Roux Institute and be able to consistently convey the Institute's core mission and values. The successful candidate should highlight previous relevant partnership experience in any relevant domains.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required

A minimum of five (5) years of professional work experience

Three (3) or more years of experience in business development, strategic partnerships, enterprise sales, innovation consulting, community and economic development, or a related field

Proven ability to cultivate and nurture relationships that lead to increased revenue, reputation, or positive internal/external impact

Strong project management and analytical skills (financial, planning, operational)

Demonstrated drive to solve problems in a collaborative team environment

Excellent communication and presentation skills; both written and oral

An ability to quickly establish rapport and trust with individuals and audiences

Proven ability to filter signal from noise to strategize and meet goals and deadlines

Strong interpersonal skills, sufficient to inspire others and work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues

The ability to manage up to senior leaders and across to colleagues to accomplish critical, time-sensitive objectives

Familiarity with emerging technologies, innovations, consumer trends, and related news and deal flow in public and private markets.

Experience with Salesforce, Microsoft Office & Teams, virtual meeting platforms and database tools highly desirable

The ability to serve as an ambassador for the University

A culturally responsive mindset

A commitment to Maine and its people

A sense of humor and enthusiasm

Location & Travel Requirements:

This role must be Maine-based.

Regional travel to Northeastern's Boston and/or Burlington campuses, as well as to meet emerging partners, may be required from time to time.

Salary Grade:
