Post Graduate Teaching Fellow, Architecture

About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:
The School of Architecture in the College of Arts, Media and Design invites applications and nominations for a full-time post graduate teaching position to expand our vibrant teaching and research initiatives for our undergraduate and graduate Architecture programs.

Responsibilities:
We seek candidates who will lead recitation sections and/or classes in the area of architectural history, and perhaps other subjects such as architectural design and representation depending on candidates' backgrounds and experience in architectural studies and practice. This position will entail teaching multiple in-person and/or virtual recitation sections that support large lecture classes as well as leading dedicated classes relevant to the specific expertise areas in architectural history of the person hired.

Northeastern University offers rich opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration between the design, planning, management, science and engineering of urban environments. The position offers a one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal, in the School of Architecture in the College of Arts, Media and Design.

The School of Architecture has three distinct advantages. One, the faculty conducts courses of study in a strong diversity of practices, including architectural design, history and professional practice, urban landscape and sustainable coastal environments, market-driven building types, and building technology and performance. Two, we are located within a major private global research university and a leader in worldwide experiential learning, urban engagement and interdisciplinary research. Also, the College has a unique combination of disciplines, including Architecture, Art + Design, Game Design, Communication Studies, Journalism, Media and Screen Studies, Music, and Theatre. Three, we are in Boston, a thriving urban center of culture and innovation with extensive global connections.

Qualifications:
Candidates must have a Master's degree or equivalent, or higher terminal degree in architecture, landscape architecture or urban design, and preferably a PhD in architectural history before appointment start date. Candidates are expected to teach at the undergraduate level and perhaps graduate level. Candidates with a well-developed research agenda that will inform and advance current trends in the field through creative production, experimentation, collaboration, exhibiting and publication will be given preference for the position. This position begins August 2021.

Salary Grade:
FAC

Additional Information:
Candidates must include a letter of application describing teaching, research and relevant professional experience, a curriculum vitae and evidence of excellent teaching ability. Candidates should also provide the contact information of three references. Letters of recommendation and portfolios of creative work or research should not be submitted, but they may be requested later during the search process. Applications received on or before June 22, 2021 will be guaranteed full review. The start date for the position is the fall 2021 semester. Inquiries may be directed to the Undergraduate Coordinator of the School of Architecture, Lucy Maulsby, at l.maulsby@northeastern.edu
