Scope of Job:
Provide administrative and technical skills necessary to operate and manage a laboratory engaged in teaching .

Description of Duties:
• Manages all operations aspects and teaching activities of a laboratory involved in teaching activities.
• Responsible for facilitating teaching activities in the assigned laboratory.
• Establishes goals, and schedules and coordinates laboratory administration, including purchasing, inventorying, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.
• Ensures that all activities follow organization goals and applicable regulations.
• Estimates personnel needs to obtain lab teaching objectives.
• Management duties include interviewing, selecting, and training of employees; setting and adjusting their rates of pay and hours of work; planning and directing their work; appraising their productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in their status; handling their complaints and grievances and disciplining them when necessary.
• Management responsibilities also include the authority to make recommendations to hire, fire, or promote assigned employees or make recommendations that are given weight.
• Employees have impact on budgeting, controlling costs, planning, scheduling, and procedural change.
• Performs other duties as assigned.



Supervision Received:
General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in a related scientific field.

Licenses/Certifications:
Use of standard office equipment. Use of laboratory equipment.

Required Experience:
Five (5) years of experience with increasing responsibilities that are directly-related to the teaching or research laboratory, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Laboratory Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of personal protective equipment.
