The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign School of Music invites applications for a full time Assistant Professor of Clarinet. This is a tenure-track position to begin August 16, 2022. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Qualifications:
Required: Artist/Teacher with an emerging or established national reputation as a performer and/or pedagogue; successful teaching experience at the university level; ability to attract and recruit a diverse studio of undergraduate and graduate students; master’s degree in music or commensurate experience.

Preferred: Orchestral experience; chamber coaching experience; significant experience with the performance of new music and works by underrepresented composers; secondary performance and teaching skill in style(s) other than classical; ability to initiate collaborative projects with faculty performers, composers, or scholars; interest in exploring public engagement opportunities; doctoral degree.

Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate and graduate clarinet students in all degree and diploma programs; maintain a professional career as an artist/teacher and/or pursue other music research appropriate to a Research I university; pursue an active recruiting program that includes building relationships with universities, national organizations, and schools and private teachers statewide. Specific teaching duties include lessons, a weekly clarinet studio class, and graduate level clarinet literature and pedagogy classes. Additional teaching responsibilities may include coaching chamber music and courses or workshops in the candidate’s other areas of interest and ability. The successful candidate will also be expected to supervise the clarinet graduate teaching assistant and engage actively in the daily life of the School through participation in committees, departmental meetings, recital hearings, competitions, juries, auditions, and doctoral advisory committees. Success in teaching and recruitment, professional creative activity and/or research, and service will be evaluated as part of the tenure process.
