Assistant/Associate Professor or Executive-in-Residence Business of Creative Enterprises Program
Join our community and experience Emerson College!

Emerson College seeks an experienced faculty member for a full-time teaching position (assistant or associate professor, or executive-in-residence) in its Business of Creative Enterprises (BCE) program. The BCE program attracts students with a passion for arts and communication, who seek careers leading and managing businesses in the creative economy and beyond. Distinct from traditional business majors or arts management programs, the BCE major prepares students to become executives, managers, thought leaders, and innovators in the creative economy. BCE majors also carry their focus on collaboration, empathy, equity, and problem solving with a creative mindset into traditional business sectors. The BCE program (undergraduate, graduate, global, and pre-college) can be viewed here. The appointment start date is August 18, 2022.

Emerson College is committed to an active, intentional, and ongoing engagement with diversity—in people, in the curriculum, in the co-curriculum, and in the college's intellectual, social, cultural, and geographical communities. Emerson endorses a framework of inclusive excellence, which recognizes that institutional excellence comes from fully engaging with diversity in all aspects of institutional activities.

This faculty search is a part of the College's Presidential Faculty Inclusive Excellence program, where “The College will seek scholars and practitioners who bring innovation, creativity, and impact to the campus, and who diversify the faculty and thereby ensure greater depth and breadth of our educational offerings.” Members of historically underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate keen abilities to apply scholarly research or professional experience to the constant evolutions in the creative economies, with a focus in areas such as leadership, collaboration, sustainability, marketing, media & technology, arts, and others. The faculty member will be an active and engaged member of the BCE community, helping to shape and design the curriculum, bringing academic rigor and a cross-disciplinary approach intended to weave together the program's different scholarly strands. Teaching assignments may include foundation courses in the undergraduate program, such as Introduction to the Creative Economy, Creative Collaboration and Leadership, Marketing the Creative Enterprise, Senior Residency, and potentially courses in the BCE Graduate Program launching in 2022.

Applicants should be able to translate scholarly research and professional experience into course insights. A record of scholarly work commensurate with the desired tenure-line rank is required, or substantial professional experience in the field is required. (Tenure transfer to Emerson is possible for candidates at the associate professor rank who already hold tenure at a comparable educational institution.)

The ideal candidate will hold a master's degree, Ph.D., or other terminal degree in areas such as corporate social responsibility, leadership, intersectionality, community engagement, marketing, business administration, fine arts, or similar fields. Candidate is expected to apply their scholarly research to their teaching or their leadership and professional experience to their teaching. Teaching experience at the college level is preferred. Experience in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds is highly desirable.
