The Department of Language and Literacy Education at the University of Georgia invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor with expertise in the preparation of secondary English Education grades 6-12 teachers. This is a full-time, tenure track position that begins in August 2022.

English Education is the discipline responsible for the teaching of composition, literature, other textual forms, and language for secondary-level students (grades 6-12). As detailed below, the successful candidate will be an experienced Assistant Professor.

RESPONSIBILITIES will include all of the following:

  • Sustain and grow a line of research that contributes to scholarly advancement in secondary English Education
  • Collaborate with English Education faculty in innovative redesign of elements of graduate programs and doctoral preparation
  • Seek external funding for research
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses (face to face, online, and/or hybrid)
  • Mentor and advise graduate students
  • Engage in departmental, college, university and professional service

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS include all of the following:

  • An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in English Education or a related field
  • Demonstrates active and impactful scholarship through both publication and presentation
  • A minimum of 2 years of successful graduate level teaching (in secondary English Education courses)
  • A minimum of 2 years of successful graduate student mentoring
  • A minimum of 3 years of successful classroom teaching of secondary English/Language Arts (Grades 6-12)
  • A clear commitment to tenets of diversity, equity, and inclusion as evidenced across documented research, teaching, and service

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of two years of successful research, teaching and service as an assistant professor of English Education (or a related field).
  • Purposeful engagement with school/university partnerships
  • A record of seeking and/or obtaining external funding
  • Desired research areas include but are not limited to writing and the teaching of writing, teacher education with a focus on English Education or literacy education, antiracist teaching, or rural teacher education.
