The Department of Mass Communication, Advertising and Public Relations in Boston University’s College of Communication seeks to fill three full-time faculty positions at the Lecturer rank beginning with the 2022-23 academic year. The positions will be one each in Advertising, Public Relations, and Mass Communication.

Boston University considers Lecturers to be faculty members appointed primarily to provide instruction. Within the College of Communication (COM), the basic requirement of Lecturers reflects strong teaching ability and a relevant basis of educational and professional expertise and achievement. Although exceptions exist, Lecturer appointments usually are made for a period of three years. Lecturer is a non-tenure track position. BU offers degrees in advertising at the graduate and undergraduate levels and all instructors are expected to be able to teach at both levels. Lecturers at Boston University are members of a union and covered under a collective bargaining agreement.

Teaching assignments for the Lecturer currently being sought for the Advertising position will include some combination of creative undergraduate and graduate courses such as: Introduction to Advertising, Fundamentals of Creative Development, Media Strategy, and other possible courses depending upon curriculum needs and applicant expertise. It’s possible the person hired might also teach within BU’s award-winning ADLab.

Teaching assignments for the Lecturer currently being sought for the Public Relations position will include some combination of undergraduate and graduate courses such as: Principles of Public Relations, Business Fundamentals for Public Relations, Digital Media and Public Relations, and other possible courses depending upon curriculum needs and applicant expertise. It’s possible the person hired might also teach within BU’s award-winning PRLab.

Teaching assignments for the Lecturer currently being sought for the Mass Communication position will include some combination of undergraduate and graduate courses such as: Understanding Media, Persuasion Theory, Communication Research Methods, Writing for Communication, Design Strategy, and other possible courses depending upon curriculum needs and applicant expertise. It’s possible the person hired might also choose to participate in the Communication Research Center.
