OU COVID-19 VACCINATION POLICY COVID-19 vaccinations are
now required for all Oakland University students, faculty and
staff. The Department of Theatre in the College of Arts and
Sciences' School of Music, Theatre and Dance at Oakland University
invites candidates to apply for an Associate/Full Professor and
Chair of Theatre position beginning August 15, 2022. The successful
candidate will also be appointed to an initial 3-year term as
Department Chair. This position is eligible for renewal during the
3rd year of each 3-year appointment. The chair position includes a
1/1 teaching load. As a member of the theatre faculty, the
successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a strong
commitment to teaching excellence and contribute to curriculum in
the area of the candidate's area of expertise through directing,
acting, designing or managing stage productions (including new
works), or other areas of specialization, including dramaturgy,
community engagement, practice as research, or production.
Expertise as a producer or in production management preferred.
Additional expectations include: 1) Working collaboratively to
maintain an innovative curriculum for a broad range of students of
varied identities and backgrounds who seek to explore a range of
educational opportunities and career pathways, 2) Recruiting and
retaining students of exceptional promise, 3) Developing and
maintaining a visible national and international profile as a
theatre artist and teacher. The successful candidate will
demonstrate experience with and a commitment to diversity and
inclusion. The expectations for the Chair of the Department of
Theatre, one of 3 chairs in the School of Music, Theatre and Dance,
include but are not limited to: 1) Leading the Department of
Theatre (a department with multiple undergraduate degree programs
of approximately 120 students, 8 full time and 21 part time
faculty, and 2 staff), 2) Providing overall supervision of the
department and its administration, 3) Advocating for the
department, 3) Serving as administrative head of the department
with oversight of faculty (including faculty teaching assignments),
staff, curriculum, budget, and strategic direction, 4) Representing
the department in outreach and engagement activities, 5) Overseeing
department recruitment, 6) Exercising artistic leadership over
season selection and productions, 7) Providing visionary and
inspiring leadership, 7) Articulating and enact a vision infusing
anti-racism and social justice as a fundamental value of theatre
practice, scholarship, and community engagement, 8) Engaging in
interdisciplinary initiatives and collaborations across campus, and
9) Overseeing the department's National Association of Schools of
Theatre accreditation. As both faculty member and chair, the
successful candidate will be expected to participate in faculty
governance, attend faculty meetings and serve on faculty and
University committees as appropriate.Appointment as Associate
Professor: a consistent record of achievement, as recognized by
peers, involving teaching, artistic, and/or scholarly activity, and
recognized professional contribution. Appointment as Professor: a
high level of distinction as reflected in a record of mature
artistic and/or scholarly work, a consistent level of teaching
excellence, and demonstrated leadership at the candidate's
institution and in their field of expertise. For either rank, this
record is expected to have been continuous. Terminal Degree or
commensurate professional experience for appointment as Associate
Professor or Full Professor required.
