Description

The Director of Global Health will be responsible for the overall mission, vision, strategic direction, coordination, and administration of the new Hope College Global Health academic program, which includes an interdisciplinary undergraduate global health minor and major with an experiential capstone requirement.  The duties of the director include launching a new academic program, securing funding opportunities, recruiting students and faculty, developing a strong academic infrastructure in global health, and nurturing global health partnerships with local and regional communities and health institutes.  In addition, the Director will foster faculty-student global health research, and faculty development for innovative teaching, research, and experiential capstone courses related to a variety of global health issues. The Director will report to the Provost (CAO). The ideal candidate will have a passion for student learning and a broad understanding of curricula related to the physical, mental, social, and spiritual dimensions of human health. 

 

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  • A doctoral degree in biomedical sciences, public health, social sciences or a related field, with teaching success and a publication record consistent with and comparable to a faculty appointment at Hope College at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

  • Administrative leadership experience of at least five years in a governmental, NGO, and/or academic organization.  

  • International and intercultural experience partnering effectively with leaders of international and domestic global health initiatives.

  • Knowledge of the diverse fields and scholarship integral to global public health education and research, including the interdisciplinary contributions of Humanities, Social Science, and Natural Science disciplines.   

  • Demonstrated leadership in developing partnerships in global health education, research, or practice with local and regional communities.

  • Experience working with or studying the relationship between key global health entities at different levels of society,  such as the World Health Organization, health NGOs, health policy organizations, community health, and graduate school programs. 

  • Demonstrated excellence in innovative pedagogy (e.g., experiential learning, project-based learning, design thinking, humanitarian entrepreneurship, team-teaching, student-faculty research, and community-based global engagement).  

  • Understanding of the structural inequalities and the social, environmental, and economic determinants defining health equity and access globally. 

  • Understanding of and experience with models of ethical community-based global engagement.

  • Track record of securing external funding.
