Position Announcement

Works closely with the Executive Director of Business Services / Controller to provide oversight and leadership of all Business Services functions for the University to ensure timely and accurate financial reports to internal and external stakeholders. Provides expertise and leadership in matters of Financial Reporting, financial operations and internal controls. As a key member of Business Services, is involved in all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, analysis, operational improvement and growth initiatives of the University. Provides vision and direction for continuous improvement and optimization of processes. Provides leadership within the department and is an ambassador for the Finance department to other areas of the University. Responsibilities

  • Direct responsibility for accounting oversight of Athletics, Auxiliary Operations, Foundations, and other major campus departments.
  • Facilitate timely completion and filing of the University and University Foundation IRS filings including Form 990 as required.
  • Supervise one or more areas of Business Services as assigned.
  • Take lead role in preparing, analyzing and reviewing various financial reports and identifying needed changes, updates or corrections.
  • Assist in the development and management of the University’s accounting and financial policies, procedures and documentation to include strong internal controls and ensure compliance with relevant governing standards.
  • Provide oversight, in coordination with the Executive Director, of day to day activities for the Business Services department, with a focus on internal controls, standardizing processes, efficiency and customer service.
  • Provide leadership and management of the annual financial audit, compliance audits, and agreed upon procedures.
  • Proficient user and subject matter expert of the Banner Finance system.
  • Take a leadership role in maintaining the financial system and other ancillary systems ensuring optimization of the systems for accurate, timely and efficient processing of transactions to support the University as it continues to grow and expand programs.
  • Manage, train, and develop staff in order to ensure high level of expertise, professionalism and service within the department.
  • Serve on college and departmental committees as assigned.
  • Remain knowledgeable in accounting rules and regulations and assist with ongoing compliance with GAAP and GASB matters.
  • Assist with the identification, review and implementation of any new software or platforms as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, as well as Masters of Accountancy or closely-related degree, required. CPA certification preferred.
  • At least five (5) years' direct accounting experience, with progressively higher levels of responsibility including team leadership, required. Experience in higher education accounting is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge in the use of Microsoft office products, in particular Excel and Access.
  • Extensive experience in the use of Banner and Banner Modules, including FR, AP, AR, and Fixed Assets.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • An eagerness to engage with colleagues, to develop ways to improve the Business office policies and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of accounting rules and regulations as they apply to higher education.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $80,000+ depending on qualifications & experience. Desired start date of November 2021.
