Job Description Summary

Prince George’s Community College invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Technology, Engineering, and Construction department, beginning January 2022. Continuing Tenure Track – faculty hired on 2-year conditional track, upon successful performance and evaluation, the hires may continue towards tenure track, and is renewable each year for two years. The position primarily involves teaching classes in cybersecurity and information technology, advising students, and associated service to the college. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to high-quality undergraduate education.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master’s Degree in Information Technology, Information Security, Computer Information Systems, Web Technology, Network Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related computer fields.
  2. Minimum one year full-time or equivalent part-time, teaching experience at the college level in one or more of the following areas: application development, computer programming, computer science, databases, help desk procedures, information security, information technology, networking, systems analysis, office productivity software, and web technology.
  3. Minimum one year of industry experience in one or more of the following areas: application development, computer programming, computer science, databases, help desk procedures, information security, information technology, networking, systems analysis, cloud computing and web technology.


Criteria

CRITERIA : The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. Other information and observations made during the interview process may be considered in the selection process.
  1. Extent and relevance of educational preparation to anticipated teaching assignments.
  2. Relevance of teaching experience to anticipated teaching assignments in a variety of information technology areas.
  3. Relevance of non-teaching professional experience to anticipated teaching assignments. Examples: Curriculum development, interdisciplinary engagement, work with grant funded programs, industry certification.
  4. Evidence of quality teaching, including faculty evaluation scores and ratings, teaching awards earned, face-to-face and online courses designed, developed and/or revised, etc.
  5. Evidence of knowledge of and experience in employing instructional methods and techniques appropriate to different student learning styles. Examples: Cooperative learning, online teaching, and group projects.
  6. Evidence of currency in professional discipline through industry certification, continuing education, professional development and/or scholarly activity.
  7. Extent of expertise and/or teaching experience in the following information technology areas:

  • Cisco routing and switching concepts ( CCNA )
  • Computer graphics
  • Computer hardware installation, configuration and repair
  • Database management
  • Help desk procedures
  • Information security
  • Information technology concepts
  • Learning management systems (Blackboard)
  • Network administration
  • Online teaching experience
  • Operating systems concepts
  • Cloud Computing
  • Programming logic and languages
  • Programming application development (mobile and gaming)
  • Project management
  • Social networking media
  • Systems analysis
  • Web technology
8. Extent, currency, and relevance of professional certifications held. Examples: A+, CCNA, CISSP, IC3, MOS, CEH, AWS, Net+, Security+, etc..
9. Evidence of ability to teach effectively within, and contribute positively to, a diverse, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural student population and campus environment.

Job Requirements

  1. Degree from an accredited institution.
  2. Unofficial transcripts must accompany application for teaching positions. Before an applicant can be recommended for hire, he/she must have an unofficial transcript on file with the college. Official transcripts of academic work required upon an offer of employment.
  3. Documentation of experience and performance required.
  4. Ability to teach days, evenings, weekends or online.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  6. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
