West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine and the WVU Cancer Institute is seeking a proven leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology. This is an exceptional leadership opportunity for a physician with an unwavering commitment to improving health through excellence in clinical care, education, and research.

The Department of Radiation Oncology provides care to over 1,300 patients annually. The department includes seven Radiation Oncologists with opportunity for further growth and expansion of services across the WVU Health System. The Department Chair will provide oversite of physician faculty in four practice locations.

The Chair will provide leadership in the delivery of patient-centered care within a growing, integrated delivery health care system. The successful candidate will have the skills and commitment necessary to advance medical education and research and motivate department faculty and trainees in the discovery and application of state-of-the-art knowledge. Candidates should have excellent communication skills and the ability to develop, lead, and maintain a collegial department culture. Administrative experience should include strategic planning, finance/budgeting, quality, operations, and recruitment. An understanding of critical issues in rural healthcare is highly desired. Candidates with current academic experience in a multi-hospital system are highly desired.

Applicants must be board certified in radiation oncology, have an MD, DO, or foreign equivalent degree, and be eligible to obtain an unrestricted West Virginia medical license. A minimum of five years of experience in a leadership role in a complex, multi-faceted university or large clinical group practice is preferred, as well as a proven ability to provide leadership to other physicians, health care professionals, support staff, and students. Applicants must meet all requirements by the time of appointment. Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications.

We have a very active clinical trials program, pharmaceutical studies, and an emerging statewide clinical trials network.
