The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Purdue University (www.physics.purdue.edu) seeks applications for a faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in the field of theoretical condensed matter physics.  All areas of theoretical condensed matter physics will be considered. We are interested in outstanding scientists with an established track record in condensed matter theory, a commitment to leading a preeminent research program, and a clear vision for future innovation.

About the Department and College:  The Department of Physics and Astronomy has 60 tenured and tenure-track professors, 190 graduate students, and 280 undergraduates.  The Department is engaged in research in astrophysics, atomic, molecular, and optical physics, biological physics, condensed matter, high energy, nuclear physics, and physics education, as well as university-wide multidisciplinary research in data science, nanoscience, photonics, and quantum information science involving the Birck Nanotechnology Center, the Purdue Quantum Science and Engineering Institute, and the Colleges of Engineering.

Physics and Astronomy is part of Purdue's College of Science, which includes computer, mathematical, physical, and life sciences. It is the second-largest college at Purdue, with over 350 faculty and more than 6,000 students. Purdue itself is one of the nation’s leading land-grant universities, with an enrollment of over 41,000 students primarily focused on STEM subjects, including over 8,000 international students.  

Qualifications: Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field and an outstanding record of research accomplishments.  The successful candidate is expected to develop a vigorous research program, obtain significant research funding, supervise graduate students, and teach undergraduate and graduate level courses.
