Position Summary
In pursuit of Slippery Rock University’s educational mission, the Associate Director for Place-Based Community Engagement and Civic Leadership will work to transform the intellectual, social, and leadership capacities of students to serve the common good and work toward the betterment of self and society. To that end, the Associate Director will develop, manage and coordinate a diverse array of multi-faceted community engaged learning activities and programs designed to promote the development and formation of SRU students as critically self-aware, socially-responsible citizens and civic-minded leaders and professionals.

Based at SRU’s downtown Butler Center for Community Engagement, Empowerment, and Development ( SUCCEED ), and under the supervision of the Director, the Associate Director will establish SUCCEED as a bridge and resource for campus-community engagement and collaboration. As such the Associate Director will be responsible for implementing and managing an array of student community engagement activities and programs in Butler city and township area as a strategy for student success. The Associate Director will also serve as SUCCEED site manager; responsible for all Center operations and will train and supervise a team of student leaders to assist with and support those functions. The Associate Director will also serve as a community liaison, assisting with the development of a network of community site placements for Bonner Leaders, and managing a variety of community partnerships in order to expand and strengthen the number of multi-faceted community and civic engagement opportunities for SRU students, including the annual Butler Community Service Day, Bonner Service Saturdays, developing a SUCCEED Civic Engagement program, and other volunteer and service immersion experiences for a broad range of SRU students.

The Associate Director will select and supervise Bonner Leaders and Haverlack Good citizen Scholars placed at SUCCEED as well as supervise additional student workers that support operations at the site. The Associate Director will work cooperatively with non-university groups, as well as other SRU departments and staff, to respond to specific university, community, and student needs or interests related to the work of SUCCEED in Butler.

*Develop and implement a variety of multi-faceted, developmental, and place-based student community and civic engagement activities and programs in Butler city and township area as a strategy for student success.
*Coordinate the annual SRU Community Service Days in Butler and Slippery rock each September.
*Seek external grant funding to support the costs of student mobilization, promotion materials, food, and other costs associated with community service days.
*Facilitate the execution of two Bonner Service Saturdays for SRU students each semester through SUCCEED and Butler-based Bonner Leader community site placements and partners.
*Leverage the social, programmatic, and community-based assets of the Bonner Leader program in Butler to develop and implement a SUCCEED civic engagement program for SRU students.
*Select and manage the placement of Haverlack Good Citizen Scholars with SUCCEED and Butler-based community organizations.
*Execute annual SUCCEED Service EXPOs (i.e. Growing Connections, Open Houses, etc) in order to promote and connect local/regional community members and organizations to the campus community for service and engagement opportunities.
*Manage and oversee all operations of the SRU Center for Community Engagement, Empowerment, and Development ( SUCCEED ) in downtown Butler.
*Manage and oversee all operations, procedures and guidelines for SUCCEED .
*Select, train, and supervise students in the operational functions of SUCCEED .
*Provide direct supervision and support as co-educator to the lead student Bonner Leaders placed at SUCCEED for both operations and programming.
*Maintain and verify the collection of data from all SUCCEED events and programs. Provide annual report of outcomes as requested by Director.
*Serve as community liaison to establish SUCCEED as a place-based resource center for community and civic engagement opportunities and other community engaged learning experiences.
*Support Assistant Director for the Bonner Leader program with the identification, development and management of Butler-based Bonner Leader site placements.
*Establish a network of community organizations that supports on-going participation and involvement with student engagement opportunities and SUCCEED events and programs (i.e. Bonner Leader orientation, Bonner fall retreat, community service days, Bonner Service Saturdays, Civic Engagement program, etc.). Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree

Three years of full-time professional experience in related field OR five years cumulative experience in community engagement, community organizing or non-profit management

Valid driver’s license

Candidate must perform well in an interview and successfully pass a background check

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in related field

Knowledge of community engagement and/or civic leadership theory and practice

Experience with a Bonner Scholars/leader program

Ability to design outcomes-based programming for student civic learning and development.

Ability to work collaboratively with people having diverse identities

Working knowledge and experience in Butler city, township, or county
