Web and Digital Content Manager
George Mason University’s Operations and Business Services is seeking a highly motivated, innovative and ambitious individual to join the team as Web and Digital Content Manager. This position reports directly to the Associate Director of Marketing and Communication. Responsibilities:
- Maintains, enhances, supports, and documents the design and accessibility of applications that interface with our websites;
- Works collaboratively within the team to plan and prioritize development and shape the technical direction of projects;
- Interacts directly with university clients to determine requirements, diagnose problems, train users, provide support, and ensure the successful ongoing delivery of well-designed, usable services;
- Responsible for project management;
- Manages modern, responsive, accessible websites;
- Advises on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and strategy;
- Tracks, analyzes, and provides monthly and annual reports on website metrics to inform future enhancements;
- Analyzes the site layouts and structures, HTML coding, and navigation systems for optimizing the content to enhance the visibility of the websites;
- Reviews websites to ensure accuracy and functionality and mark changes as required to review at team meetings, and work closely with supervision and unit liaisons to ensure site content production adheres to best practices;
- Writes web documentation, including web standards, procedures, best practices, and style guides;
- Manages forms, and other integrations with technology vendors including email databases, listservs, applications, platforms, and other vendors as needed;
- Develops new forms, as needed, to facilitate the intake of information and data;
- Maintains digital presence on multiple websites and all social media platforms, to include providing guidance to unit liaisons on unit-managed platforms;
- Collaborates with Executive Director of Business Partnerships and Licensing, Associate Director of Marketing and Communications, Graphic Designer, and unit marketing teams on various department projects and initiatives;
- Takes a multi-channel approach to engage with internal and external stakeholders, developing digital promotions and driving an overall digital strategy for multiple websites and social platforms representing multiple partners throughout the portfolio;
- Works with and assists marketing staff to set and execute an overall digital marketing strategy aimed at creating driving web traffic;
- Assists the marketing team and other staff with ongoing programs/events, including but not limited to, social media, email strategy, and analytics;
- Provide staff support for outreach events, when needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communication, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience with at least 2 years’ experience with demonstrated success in the web and digital content management, and/or related fields strongly preferred;
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills;
- Significant relevant Web site content management work experience;
- Experience using social media while maintaining an engaging, interactive and creative presence;
- Experience in web-based communication and engagement (in both content creation and technical aspects);
- Strong experience in Microsoft Office; website content-management systems (WordPress preferred, HTML and CSS skills strongly desired); familiarity with contact databases and email campaigns a strong advantage; working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and project management tools a plus;
- Knowledge of Web accessibility and usability, internet trends, and programming functionality;
- Working knowledge of any web analytics application (Google Analytics preferred);
- Working knowledge of social media analytics (preferred);
- Experience with responsive and user interface design highly desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Audio/video software skills a plus;
- Must be able to grasp new concepts and stay current with technology; take and follow instructions while being a team player;
- Must be able to direct and coordinate several unrelated projects simultaneously, efficiently, and effectively while maintaining deadlines;
- Knowledge of CMYK and PMS color grids;
- Working knowledge of videography and photography;
- Working knowledge of Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox Web browsers, Windows OS and Macintosh OS;
- Working knowledge of project management tools such as Trello, Hootsuite, Airtable, EMMA, Jotforms and Google Drive.
