Complete College America is organized as an Alliance of 48 states, territories, and higher education consortia where executives have committed to reimagining systems to be engines of equity, prosperity, and hope. Each Alliance member sets ambitious goals for increasing college completion rates, tracks progress toward their goals, and prioritizes implementation of a set of evidence-based practices that have proven to produce more equitable outcomes for students.  

 

Job Description

 

Reporting to the Vice President for Alliance Engagement and Institutional Transformation, CCA is seeking a dynamic, talented, and energetic Strategy Director that will lead projects and strategies that enable states, systems, and postsecondary institutions to scale strategies. The successful candidate must demonstrate adeptness at seeking knowledge, leading with innovation and integrity, advancing diversity and inclusion, engaging locally and globally, and embracing the responsible stewardship of resources.  The Strategy Director will serve as the lead on matters pertaining to the CCA’s strategic pillars and will work to develop relationships across their Alliance region and with higher education partners.  An individual will be successful in this position if they can own and prioritize projects, balance tasks, and employ a team-based approach to executing strategy.

 

As a member of the Strategy team, the successful candidate must know how to move people and shape ideas geared towards building movements centered on student success and facilitating actions that lead to institutional transformation.  Strategy Directors assist with analyzing data to help partners understand needs and implement strategic interventions related to capacity building to sustain institutional transformation efforts.  Additionally, the Director must be able to develop interventions to support the CCA’s strategic pillars.  This person must be comfortable creatively igniting change in the postsecondary ecosystem of institutions, policy leaders, researchers, and thought leaders. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter able to flourish in a fast-paced, team-based environment; someone who can be nimble, flexible, and exercise strong conceptual and critical thinking skills. An individual will be successful in this position if they own and prioritize projects, balance tasks, and employ a team-based approach to addressing network and operations strategy.  More specifically, they must be able to balance the position’s need for project management, effective communication, development of professional development, and technical assistance tools.

 

Responsibilities will include the following:

 

  • Manage assigned CCA Alliance states and consortia including stakeholder relationships, consultation, and advocacy
  • Serve as a staff lead for the management, development, and acceleration of select CCA student success strategies
  • Manage grant-funded projects that implement and scale strategies in states, higher education systems, and institutions
  • Develop or identify the most valuable templates and resources for implementation
  • Track associated policies that accelerate the implementation of CCA strategies
  • Assist in generating project reports for funders, senior organizational leadership, and the CCA Board of Directors
  • Contribute to national policy, advocacy, and implementation of college completion efforts
  • Develop technical assistance for states and institutions to support identified needs through institutional transformation projects
  • Collaborate with the communications team to promote activities occurring in Alliance states and current projects
  • Develop materials to support the promotion of institutional transformation work
  • Assist with publications aligned with CCA’s strategic pillars
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts during planning and implementation of strategy implementation and funded projects
  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate various training workshops as needed. Design and develop training content and materials
  • Assist in creating grant proposals
  • Forecast needs and assists in developing budget/unit plans, staffing, and resources
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

 

Job Description:

 

An ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

 

  • Master’s Degree and/or minimum of five years of work experience in higher education
  • Experience with higher education and/or state policy
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills with careful attention to grammar, and organizational voice and tone
  • Ability to articulate complex higher education issues in a manner that can be clearly understood by a variety of audiences
  • A firm commitment to equity in the workplace and the achievement of equitable outcomes for under-served students
  • Expertise and comfort in engaging institutional and policy leaders, faculty, and staff that serve underrepresented backgrounds, including having a complex understanding of the needs of minoritized populations and students from low-income and first-generation
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with keen attention to detail
  • A firm commitment to equity in the workplace and the achievement of equitable outcomes for minoritized students
  • Familiarity with content optimization systems and processes
  • Clear understanding and commitment to the CCA mission, values, goals, and theory of change
  • Experience in training teams, including the creation of templates and documents for action planning
  • An innovative, solution-oriented thinker that understands complex systems and has strong relationship-building skill sets that lead to high-quality organizational practices and results
  • An ability to operate both independently and as a member of a high functioning team
  • Acuity in data analysis and utilization of student success metrics
  • Willingness to learn and build new skill sets that are important to achieving work objectives
  • Demonstrated professional success in managing multiple, simultaneous projects
  • Ability to travel frequently
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Extensive understanding of office software to include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Physical Demands:

 

The position requires very little physical effort. However, during an event, the employee may have to lift boxes with meeting supplies and documents for distribution. Frequent out-of-state travel is required.
