Job Description
The Mary and Jeff Bell Library at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) invites applications for an Open Education Librarian at the rank of Assistant or Associate Librarian. This is a non-tenure track faculty librarian position and rank will be determined upon qualifications. The Open Education Librarian will work to facilitate the adoption, adaptation, and creation of open educational resources (OER) at TAMU-CC through advocacy, outreach, and training. The Open Education Librarian will collaborate with faculty from a broad range of disciplines, as well as students, staff, administrators, and consortial partners. In partnership with the Scholarly Communication and Copyright Librarian, the Open Education Librarian will contribute actively to the overall scholarly communications program, which includes open access, author rights, scholarly publishing, data management, and repositories. This faculty librarian position reports to the Director of User and Research Services and will participate in departmental activities such as liaison librarianship, library instruction, and reference services.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership, vision, and support for the University
Library's open education initiatives in collaboration with various
stakeholders.
- Guides faculty in the discovery, creation, dissemination,
adoption, and evaluation of open and affordable course
content.
- Creates OER-related instructional resources, including
webpages, guides, and learning objects.
- Designs, markets, and delivers events and workshops related to
open and affordable learning resources.
- Maintains current awareness of developments in the field of
open education as well as relevant legislation and other public
policy initiatives.
- Works collaboratively with the Scholarly Communication and
Copyright Librarian on open initiatives.
- Provides reference services in-person as well as via phone,
chat, email, and text.
- Serves as a subject liaison and participates in subject area
collection development and departmental liaison work, including
providing subject specific information literacy classes, consulting
with students and faculty, maintaining subject guides, and
exploring opportunities for online point-of-need tutorials on
subject area matter. Assists with first year instruction,
particularly in subject area cohorts.
- Increases professional competence through formal or informal
study and professional development activities.
- Participates in scholarly/creative activities and serves on
library, university, and/or professional committees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
The Mary and Jeff Bell Library provides resources and services to assist users with their research and information needs. Over half a million physical items, over 300 online databases and over 150,000 print and electronic journals through subscriptions and full-text databases contain scholarly material to assist students in completing research projects or assignments. The Library provides both in-person and virtual reference service, research skills and information literacy instruction, interlibrary loan, an I-Create makerspace lab, and over 170 computers for research and coursework. Special Collections and Archives houses a wealth of resources focusing on Corpus Christi, the Coastal Bend, and South Texas.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Library and/or Information Science from an
ALA-accredited institution or equivalent institution by the time of
appointment.
- Demonstrated familiarity with the concepts of open and
affordable course content, open access, open licensing and
copyright, and open educational practices as well as trends in
these areas.
- Awareness of accessibility considerations for websites and
digital sources.
- Evidence of ability to work both independently and collegially
on a team in a demanding and rapidly changing environment with a
strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Well-developed analytical, organizational, and communication
skills (oral, written, and interpersonal).
- Familiarity with information literacy and research skills
instruction.
- Evidence of interest in professional and scholarly
activities.
- Strong leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Work experience in an academic library.
- Experience with OER creation and/or adaptation.
- Familiarity with institutional repositories, scholarly
publishing, and related issues.
- Experience with providing information literacy instruction at
the college level.
- Experience with providing reference services in an academic
library.
- Experience with remediating materials to conform to
accessibility guidelines.
- Familiarity with Texas legislation related to open education
issues.
