The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign School of Music invites applications for tenure-eligible, open rank full-time appointment as Director of Orchestras. This appointment will begin August 16, 2022. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Qualifications:
Required qualifications: Emerging or established national reputation as orchestra director and artist/teacher. Master of Music degree or equivalent professional experience.

 Preferred qualifications: Doctoral degree. Evidence of successful teaching in a university school of music or conservatory.  Proven record as a successful recruiter of both orchestra members and graduate conducting students. Innovative programming that places new music in dialogue with repertoire of the past and embraces underrepresented composers. Ability to collaborate with others and build bridges between various areas of the school. Interest in exploring public engagement opportunities. 

Responsibilities:
Guide all administrative, curricular, and artistic aspects of the orchestra program; conduct orchestral ensemble(s); teach the graduate conducting seminar; teach private lessons to graduate conducting students, serve as an effective recruiter for the School of Music; supervise doctoral projects; contribute to the activities of a School of Music in a Research I university.
