As a part of diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks a Director of University Ministry. The Director of University Ministry promotes our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by developing a ministry program that invites students to encounter our loving God, discover their calling, and claim a role in restoring all of creation.  The Director of University Ministry provides collaborative leadership to ensure that University Ministry is known for its missionary character, rich worship, and education for justice as it encourages students to live as missionary disciples.  The director will accomplish this by leading a talented staff, empowering a student leadership model of ministry, and promoting collaboration with and integration with offices throughout campus.  The option for a ten-month contract is available.   The director will be a deeply rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition, and, from that tradition, engage the diverse Marian University community in interculturally competent ways.  The ideal candidate will be joy-filled, creative, highly organized, and seek out new opportunities and collaboration.  Students should see the director as a Christian witness, leader, and mentor.  The director should have a minimum of five years’ experience in campus ministry or related field, hold a master’s degree in theology or equivalent, and have a demonstrated record of program creation, execution, and leadership.    While providing direction and oversight for the Office of Campus Ministry the director will also be asked to directly lead prayer opportunities along with the Chaplain and University Minister for Worship and Music, the Covenant Ministers program, and San Damiano Scholars sophomore service projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
  • Administrative ministry: Ongoing development and implementation of the campus ministry mission, vision, and strategic plan with the Campus Ministry staff that fosters a culture of intentional missionary discipleship. Leading and managing the Campus Ministry staff to engage an increasing percentage of students in leadership opportunities. Equipping, empowering, and ensuring excellence in all campus ministry activities.  (30%)
  • Direct Ministry involvement: Oversee university prayer services along with staff and student leaders.  Organize the Covenant Minister program which connects area ministers with students of all faith traditions. Collaborate with the director of the San Damiano Scholars program to organize sophomore service projects. (30%)
  • Student leadership formation: Organize, form, and engage the Campus Ministry Council to respond to the spiritual needs of the entire student body. Serve as the direct liaison to graduate and medical students. (15%)
  • Leadership Responsibilities: Develop, implement, and evaluate the budget for campus ministry utilizing established Marian University systems and procedures. Serve as the liaison to the offices of Student Success and Engagement and Student Affairs in the College of Osteopathic Medicine. (15%)
  • Other Responsibilities: Collaborate with university and community stakeholders to advance the mission of Campus Ministry. Complete other duties as assigned. (10%)
  • Review Campus Ministry newsletter for accuracy on a timely basis
  • Assist in implementing other Mission and Ministry programs as needed, including but not limited to the following:
    • San Damiano Scholars
    • Missionary Disciples Institute 
    • Renovación (IPR) 
  • Collaboration and Committee Work
    • Student Success and Engagement Meetings
    • Mission and Identity Committee of the Board of Trustees
    • SOAR (Student Orientation and Registration)
    • Archdiocese of Indianapolis College Campus Ministry 
    • Catholic Campus Ministry Association
    • Other committees as assigned
Required Qualifications:         
  • Baptized, practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
  • Hold a master’s degree in ministry, theology, or related field
  • Five-years of experience in campus ministry
  • Experience managing professional staff
  • Experience in budget management
  • Record of excellent program design and implementation
  • Experience in working with students of diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Executes ministerial responsibilities in a manner aligned with the ministerial vision of Marian University (below)
  • Full knowledge and understanding of Catholic Church teaching, including the following documents as they relate to execution of the duties assigned this position is required:
    • Evangelii Gaudium
    • Empowered by the Spirit
    • Ex Corde Ecclesiae 
  • The General Instruction of the Roman Missal
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong, internally motivated work ethic
  • Competency in the Microsoft office suite
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Regular/frequent work during evenings and weekends
  Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Knowledge of the Franciscan charism and tradition
  • Competency in Spanish
