The General Manager is responsible for managing the technology, student work force and content distribution resources in alignment with Newhouse School and Syracuse University learning outcomes and strategic goals. The General Manager is expected to work in association with other content distribution entities across the School and University (Newhouse School Executive Editor; WAER ; Citrus TV, Newshouse, Citrus TV and other student production groups, etc.) to maximize impact of overall content delivery and outcomes. The General Manager reports to the Television-Radio-Film Department Chair. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of professional/academic media experience. Job Specific Qualifications
Extensive knowledge and experience with TV production and post production technology, digital content systems and practices, web content delivery systems and current TV programming delivery strategies and practices. Responsibilities
  • Cultivate a content delivery vision for Orange Television Network operations and staff that effectively exhibits and celebrates student work for public reception.
  • Also keep abreast of current programming, production, social media and internet (website) trends and maintain contact with university personnel who manage the university cable contract.
  • Update, maintain and manage the Orange Television Network ( OTN ) platforms: Channel 14.1, OTT Apps (Roku, FireTV, AppleTV), YouTube, OTN Mobile App, OTN Website. This includes managing, maintaining and updating the technical facility: ensuring software updates for server/automation system, computer workstations, editing and graphics software and cameras and troubleshooting (and fixing) problems as they arise. Also, managing the operating budget for all expenses that includes yearly maintenance fees (TelVue) and services memberships (DropBox, Vimeo and Website maintenance) and payroll.
  • Supervise OTN student workers that can include TRF Instructional Associates, staff managers and production show teams. This involves managing, supporting and critiquing student produced content from all producing sources both under OTN as well as other student production groups and academic departments. Support can include content guidance and advice, providing production gear, facilities (studio) access, props and meals.
  • Manage the marketing of OTN through a consistent social media presence on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat. Also included would be video promos, print advertising and flyers. This involves displaying a presence at campus events like the Spring Reception, Newhouse Media Fair and other student events where OTN can be seen and exposed to the general student population.
  • Maintain an up-to-date facility and learning laboratory through research, trade shows and professional contacts and organizations.
