Participate in the research, software, data, and publication workflow (organization and process management throughout the research lifecycle) of the lab, including identifying best practices and engaging with students and postdocs to train them in best practices and assess compliance with lab policies. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in library & information science, information management technology, or a related field. Job Specific Qualifications
Experience in using data science tools, public data repositories, citation management systems is required. Familiarity with software management and versioning control tools (e.g git/github), and/or scientific communication via social media is a strong plus. Capacity to train undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral research associates to use information science tools is required. Experience in communicating with scientists is preferred. Responsibilities
Revamp lab’s data management plan:
  • Identify a data repository for public lab data.
  • Work with PI and trainees to identify different types of data generated in our computational physics group.
  • Specify which types of data must be publicly archived, as well as appropriate metadata.
  • Specify plan for removal (or saving of limited data) that is not publicly archived.
  • Train lab members in depositing data and citing deposited data even for codebases that are not yet publicly available.
  • Continually assess and ensure compliance with data management policy.
  • Work with Research Computing to develop a spreadsheet or tool for keeping track of data storage accounts on our server, and identifying methods to sunset accounts.
Develop a software management policy and train students:
  • Identify how archived data sets should be coupled to existing software distribution (via github).
  • Work with group to identify best practices for software distribution and then implement.
  • Identify tools for managing software development within the Manning group.
Develop a common literature citation workflow and train students:
  • Identify a local server/location for storing information.
  • Solicit information and then identify a common software tool for literature searching/citations (Mendeley, Zotero, etc.).
  • Train lab members on policy for adding manuscripts to literature bank.
  • Train lab members on adding citations to joint citation software.
  • Develop a workflow for exporting bibliographic information in various outputs (endnote, bibtext) and train lab members.
  • Keep track of which lab members are monitoring which publications, or develop better method for engaging trainees to keep track of new research.
Develop a template for group presentations/posters:
  • Common font, style, etc, to facilitate sharing of slides and poster material between group members.
Develop a social media communication strategy, manage twitter account, help trainees with social media strategies to amplify impact of scholarly work. Physical Requirements
