Assistant or Associate Professor of Architectural Design + Integrated Building Technology

The School of Architecture (SoA) within the University of Utah's College of Architecture + Planning invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor position (tenure-line) in architectural design (studio) and technology (seminar/lecture). This position will be a full-time, nine-month appointment (1.0 FTE) to begin on July 1, 2022.

Position for an Assistant Professor will be tenure-track. If the successful candidate is seeking appointment as an Associate Professor with tenure, they will be expected to produce a more extensive dossier, demonstrating prior experiences in teaching, scholarly or creative work, and service. An expedited tenure review process will then occur after the offer but prior to the appointment.

The SoA offers an accredited Master of Architecture degree, as well as a Bachelor and a Master of Science in Architectural Studies. In the last several years, a new integrated curriculum has been developed with a sequence of immersive design studios with integrated courses (technology, research, theory, communication, etc.), building up from bachelor to master to a capstone experience of a student-driven individual design project prepared and supported by architectural research.

Our work is interdisciplinary and integrated. We have taken on the role of convener of critical conversations, hosting national conferences, fostering community dialogues, publishing the critical journal Dialectic, and serving as a test bed for ideas on the university campus. Position Description

The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a background in comprehensive building design and the integration of technology in architectural design excellence. Candidates are expected to teach studio and hold lecture classes and seminars in their area of expertise (building technology, materials and methods, construction, systems integration, etc.) at both graduate and undergraduate levels. There will be a high level of integration with studio and other core courses, and the ability to take a leadership role in this area of the curriculum is critical for this position. Candidates will be expected to conduct research and/or produce creative work within an R1 university setting. Candidates applying for the Associate Professor position will be considered to serve as the Graduate Program Coordinator (with an additional stipend to be negotiated).

Minimum qualifications

• An NAAB-accredited graduate degree in Architecture (e.g., Arch).
• Previous academic teaching and/or professional experience (with examples).
• Demonstration of research and/or creative

Preferred qualifications:

• Architectural license/on the path to licensure, or a PhD in architecture (with focus on building technology, materials, structures, building systems or similar area).
• Integration of architectural research with design projects.
• Awards for teaching and/or
