Talladega College
President
Talladega, Alabama

The Board of Trustees of Talladega College invites nominations for and expressions of interest in the position of president.

Founded in 1867 as Alabama’s first private, liberal arts college serving black students, Talladega College has been known for academic excellence for more than 150 years. Its dedication to delivering horizon-expanding educational opportunities has yielded tremendous success. Notable alumni have included civil rights leaders, political luminaries, college presidents, accomplished business executives, outstanding social and natural scientists, and award-winning writers. The College sustains a close-knit community of more than 1,300 students on a 50-acre campus surrounded by the city of Talladega, Alabama and gently rolling woodlands.

The next Talladega President will be able to build on significant accomplishments over the last 13 years. Enrollment has expanded significantly, financial difficulties have been ameliorated through new programs and some generous grants, and three new buildings have been added to the campus over the past two years alone. There are also challenges, including student retention and graduation rates, and the low rate of alumni giving. In this environment, the incoming Talladega President must provide sustained, visionary, and innovative leadership that understands and effectively acts on these challenges as well as the enormous opportunities ahead.

To be successful, the next Talladega President will need strong financial, business, and marketing skills, a demonstrated track record of leading strategic change and successful fundraising, and the ability to articulate a compelling case and vision for the College's future. The next president must also demonstrate significant experience at the senior level of an institution or organization of substantial complexity along with proven leadership ability and managerial success.

In addition, the next Talladega President will be student-centered and committed to the values, goals, and mission of the College to provide a quality education to all students, including those who may need academic and financial support. The selected candidate must also have impeccable integrity, expert listening skills, an abiding respect for shared governance and collaborative leadership, and an extraordinary ability to build relationships.

All applications, nominations, and inquiries are invited. Applications should include, as separate documents, a CV or resume and a letter of interest addressing the themes in the leadership profile found at www.wittkieffer.com. For fullest consideration, candidate materials should be received by December 3, 2021.

WittKieffer is assisting Talladega College in this search. Application materials can be submitted using WittKieffer’s candidate portal. Confidential nominations and inquiries can be directed to the College’s consultants, Greg Duyck, Christine Pendleton, and Oliver Tomlin at TalladegaPresident@wittkieffer.com
