Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
● Provide leadership for School of Education ( SOE ) approved educator preparation programs to ensure continued national accreditation by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation ( CAEP )
● Provide leadership for School of Education ( SOE ) counseling programs to ensure continued national accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs ( CACREP )
● Provide leadership to ensure continued state approval of educator preparation programs
● Serve as School of Education liaison with Virginia Department of Education (VA DOE ) providing reports and information as necessary to the VA DOE
● Demonstrate knowledge of the VA Regulations Governing Approved Programs and have an in depth understanding of the procedures for seeking or obtaining continuing VA approved program status
● Serve as the VCU signatory with VA DOE for all in-state and out-of-state licensure applications
● Provide leadership for annual Title II Federal Reporting for licensure programs
● Collaborates with the Student Services Center to ensure high quality clinical placements, assessment, evaluation of clinical personnel, and orientation meetings; ensure procedures align with national standards for implementation and data collection
●Serve as committee chair for internal committees focused on clinical experiences and continuous improvement, as well as the SOE Professional Education Coordinating Council that engages stakeholders across VCU and P12 public schools
● Monitor all policies and procedures as articulated to govern partnerships with local schools
● Ensure quality clinical placements in diverse schools for students
● Oversee the early hires contractual process and coordinate supervision and evaluation
● Plan and implement regular meetings of university supervisors to ensure that they are aware of the policies and regulations governing clinical experiences and keep them informed of changes or other initiatives
● Develop initiatives to address local, regional, and state challenges including pathways for provisionally licensed teachers, and the development of strategies and initiatives to ensure graduates are prepared for success in urban and high needs schools
● Represent the School of Education on University and School-level committees Minimum Hiring Standards
● An earned Masters degree from an accredited institution in education or a closely related field, or equivalent applicable training and/or experience
● Depth and breadth of knowledge of CAEP standards and evidence of leading or co-leading a successful National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education ( NCATE ) or Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation ( CAEP ) review for a traditional teacher preparation program
● Depth and breadth of knowledge of Virginia regulations governing teacher preparation and evidence of leading a successful joint NCATE or CAEP and state approved program visit
● Depth and breadth of knowledge of Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs ( CACREP ) standards and evidence of leading and preparing for a national review by CACREP
● Demonstrated knowledge and experience in collaboration with school divisions to provide high quality clinical experiences which include diverse placements
● Knowledge of academic programs and related clinical experiences
● Experience in working with diverse faculty, staff and students in a higher education setting
● Evidence of effective leadership in an administrative position in higher education
● Evidence of strong organizational skills, problem solving skills and the ability to be a team player
● Knowledgeable about challenges in Virginia including the high number of VA teachers with provisional licensure, challenges of urban and high needs schools, and possess an understanding of the state mandate governing undergraduate programs in teacher education
