About the Opportunity:
Northeastern University's College of Professional Studies invites applicants for a Half-Time Teaching Professor position to teach in our innovative online Doctor of Education program within the Graduate School of Education. The Graduate School of Education programs are located at the intersection of theory, research and practice and foster the development of scholars in practice. The program aims to support professionals from a variety of fields and contexts to develop the skills and intellectual acumen to effect change and innovation, to question systemic norms, and to anticipate and shape a more equitable, globally connected society.

Faculty members teach in an online environment with a diverse student body. We believe that graduate work in education positions students to leverage change and innovation toward a more just and equitable society. As such, our faculty embrace a scholar-practitioner model that uses Action Research as its signature pedagogy. The Doctor of Education attracts students who are passionate about exploring ways they can make the world a better place and improve practices for

Responsibilities:
learners in a variety of professional fields including P-12, Higher Education and Workplace Learning.

The position is a half-time, non-tenure track, one-year renewable appointment. Candidates for a half-time Teaching Professor position within the Graduate School of Education must demonstrate a commitment to and a successful record with graduate teaching with a diverse student body, experience with and enthusiasm for the online context, expertise in Higher Education Administration, Transformative School Leadership or Workplace Learning and expertise/experience with Action Research.

The candidate will teach four courses per year and serve as a Dissertation Chair for 20 doctoral candidates and on dissertation committees.

The position is based online, and most GSE faculty are remote. There may be some travel to Boston, MA, Seattle, WA or Charlotte, NC for convenings. Courses are taught fully online and a thoughtful comfort level with online instruction (Canvas is employed) is critical.

Faculty enjoy a collegial work environment that allows for work-life balance and are expected to be available to students online as needed for their course and dissertation work. The faculty member will report directly to the Director of the EdD program.

  • EdD or PhD in education or a related field by the appointment start date
  • 5-10 years professional experience
  • Experience working with adult learners
  • Online course development, facilitation and innovative use of technology in support of learning
  • Expertise in Action Research
  • Expertise in Higher Education Administration, Transformative School Leadership or Workplace Learning
  • Experience teaching in professional doctorates
