Reports to: Director of Curriculum and Student Development

Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum and Student Development, the Education Coordinator provides primary educational support for Phase I and Scholar’s Workshop (Phase I and II) of the MD curriculum in the Office of Medical Education. The Education Coordinator works with course directors and faculty involved in teaching Phase I and Scholar’s Workshop course of the MD Curriculum along with the Assessment Staff and other staff in the Office of Medical Education and CMSRU. Other courses may be assigned. This position requires flexible work hours and the ability to work autonomously yet in a collaborative team environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the administration and faculty of CMSRU to ensure that a quality Curriculum is delivered, ensuring that the educational and clinical experiences meet departmental and medical school learning objectives for each student to develop individual competencies;
  • Works closely and collaboratively with the Curriculum and Student Development Education Coordinators, assuming duties and responsibilities when needed;
  • Provide direction regarding CMSRU Phase I and Scholar’s Workshop (Phase I and II) curriculum activities, particularly course activities for the course directors and course faculty;
  • Works with the Assessment staff to ensure student assessments and program evaluation methods are prepared, collected, and delivered in all Phase I and SW courses using One 45 or other appropriate software methodologies;
  • Work closely with the Assessment Staff to develop reports related to Phase I and SW;
  • Works collaboratively with the Assessment staff to prepare and proctor examinations;
  • Responsible for curriculum mapping for Phase I and SW courses;
  • Plan, research, implement and complete complex projects as assigned by the Director of Curriculum and Student Development, and the deans of the Office of Medical Education;
  • Follow up on decisions and/or directives of the Curriculum Committee or the Associate Dean for Medical Education to insure implementation and/or completion;
  • Create presentations and documents utilizing basic grammar, spelling and high level formatting skills;
  • Responsible for all aspects of course or clerkship management in assigned Phase I & SW courses which includes but is not limited to attendance recording, grade recording, preparation of examinations and quizzes, preparation of class materials, posting materials to Canvas or other electronic interface, supporting in-class learning activities;
  • Serve as a liaison between the faculty and the students of the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University;
  • Conducts student lotteries with IT and the Office of Assessment;
  • Become proficient in Canvas course management, One45 Curriculum mapping software, and other learning management systems;
  • Work with faculty to schedule instructional sessions for all courses;
  • Coordinate the ·identification of students requiring academic assistance and scheduling for remediation;
  • Participate in Medical Education research initiatives for the Office of Medical Education;
  • Encourage interdisciplinary activities and work collaboratively with the Phase I Curriculum Development team;
  • Ensure that all curriculum materials for Phase I and SW are submitted by the faculty developers in a timely fashion;
  • Attend M1 & M2 Liaison meetings;
  • Support faculty development activities for the curriculum;
  • Encourage and support diversity by creating an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, and acceptance;
  • Performs other duties, responsibilities, or special projects as assigned for the Office of Medical Education, the CMSRU leadership team, course directors, faculty, and Dean’s designee.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors level degree in education or related field;
  • Minimum of 2 years medical education experience in undergraduate medical education (UME), or graduate medical education (GME), or heath care administration setting’ or 2 years of higher education administration experience in a college or university setting.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively;
  • Proven ability to work independently;
  • Proven ability to multi-task in a confidential and fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and assignments simultaneously;
  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Professional;
  • Proven proficiency in Canvas or similar course management system;
  • Knowledge of teaching/learning/assessment/ pedagogy;
  • Proven ability to work across institutional and departmental boundaries;
  • Proven proficiency with One45, Echo360, Webex, Zoom, and Google Platforms,;
  • Good prioritization and project management skills.
  • Proven ability to think creatively and effectively troubleshoot/problem solve.
  • Good analytical skills and the ability to create logical recommendations.
  • Evidence of initiative and follow-through.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience working in a higher education academic department with an understanding of curriculum and assessment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education or a related field
  • Experience with medical education curriculum mapping, patient and procedure logging, and evaluation software


This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. As such, the incumbent will perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Curriculum and Student Development, Associate Dean for Medical Education, or CMSRU leadership. Work hours are typically between 8AM and 5PM with flexibility for evening or weekend hours based on department needs.
