Postdoctoral Research Associate

About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and a world leader in experiential learning. The same commitment to connecting with the world drives our use-inspired research enterprise. The university offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs leading to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Our campuses in Charlotte, N.C., San Francisco, Seattle, and Toronto are regional platforms for undergraduate and graduate learning and collaborative research. Northeastern pursues advanced research in security and materials at the Innovation Campus in Burlington, Massachusetts, and in coastal sustainability at the Marine Science Center in Nahant, Massachusetts.

About the Opportunity:
Postdoctoral Research Associate: The Lopez Group at Northeastern University seeks an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher with a background in computational chemistry and/or machine learning.

Responsibilities:
The candidate will work alongside a dynamic team with Boston-area start-up company, Kebotix Inc. (www.kebotix.com), at the Roux Institute in Portland, Maine. This NU-funded project focuses on using in silico screening and cheminformatics to identify next-generation photopharmacological agents.

Qualifications:
The candidate should have a strong background in theoretical chemistry and/or organic chemistry with experience in collaborating with experimentalists. Photopharmacology targets interconvert from active to inactive forms spatiotemporally under irradiation and biological environments. There is a general need to identify new candidates capable of absorbing light to minimize damage to tissue and DNA. The candidate is expected to assist with proposal writing and mentoring younger students.

Preferred Qualifications:
The candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent, with a background in theoretical chemistry and/or organic chemistry.

Salary Grade:
10

How to Apply:
Applications should contain a cover letter briefly describing candidate's background and specific research interests, a full CV with a publication list, Ph.D. completion date, and the names and contact information for three references who might be contacted for recommendations. Review of applications will begin immediately.

The position will be available starting immediately, and the appointment will be for two years, and may be extended for an additional 1-2 years, depending on continuation of funding and regular progress evaluation.
